She scoffed and rolled her eyes, she heard this before and it was starting to get on her nerves.

Her real name was Abada but her peers called her Abby for short.

"You have one of the highest grades in the entire senior class, why must I always see your name in every referral slip."

Abby rolled her eyes and stood up from the small lounging chair that her principle had in her office. "Ms. C, you're being too dramatic compared to all them wanna be hood rats I'm the least of your worries."

The principle sighed and rubbed her temples, she known Abby since her junior high days. They had came to Richmond High together and Abby was starting to slip. She would get into a physical altercation with every girl that would say something that offended her.

Of course, the principal loved the fact that she was able to stand up for herself, being the fact of how her childhood was.

But Ms. C couldn't help to worry, she cared for the young beautiful black girl standing in front of her. She didn't want her future to be thrown away by careless mistakes.

"Abada you can always talk to me, you know that."

Abby narrowed her eyes at her, only her mom and the principal could call her by her full name.

"I know C, I know," she took her bag and headed back to class.

Murmurs were heard all around Abby as she walked down the crowded hallway.

Ignore them.

Don't panic.

Keep walking.

It was no secret that Abby was a big girl. She did not consider herself thick or curvy because she had her curves all in the wrong places. She had more in the top then at her bottom but because of her choice of clothes, you would never notice.

She came to a halt as she locked eyes on Jo-Vaughn Scott. A tall slender dark skin brother with the nappiest dreads that somehow only he could pull off. He was towering over one of the guys that Abby loathed, battling him.

It was a rap battle. They do this every morning and usually she misses them by spending her time chit chatting with Ms. C.

She never realized how good
Jo-Vaughn really was. Abby could tell he was feeling it, his breaths were getting hitched.

"Uh, motherfuckin' microphone checker,

Keep that grip tight, like my Smith & Wesson

Ike with the mic, which nigga tryna turn up?

Hit you with the hurtful fuckin' truth, like Sojourner

Motherfuckin' microphone eater

Spittin' hot shit, hit ya dome with the heater

Wouldn't want to be ya, dish lyrical fajitas

Got dragon balls, like my name was Vegeta"

It was bars after bars she thought.

"Go Vaughn, witcha fine self." Tamika Brown cheered him on.

Abby looked over at her. Abby thought Tamika was annoying and desperate. Always flinging for his attention, but of course she knew deep down it was just her envy talking.

Tamika was a fair skinned girl, slim in the waist and had plenty of backside. Her hair was always sleeky straight, while Abby's hair was a large mane, with spirals and curls. Now Abby loves her hair, she's been natural all her life but at times she wishes she could be just like Tamika, just for one day.

"Bitch, get the fuck out my wa-"

Abby felt someone push her and quickly turned around. Everyone knew that when it came down to disrespect, Abby wasn't down for it.

"My bad Abby, I was talking to homegirl in front of you." Tamika was no fool, she knew better than to pick a fight with Abby.

The girl who had slammed a boys head in the wall, because of a little name call. But it still doesn't mean that Tamika was cool with her.

Tamika abruptly moved around Abby and stood behind one of Jo-Vaughn's friends, hyping him up.

Abby bit down on one of her nails, one of her habits when she gets annoyed, and looked around.

"Of course, of course. Y'all already know my man Joey always beasting it up like usual." Kenny, the one that was in front of Tamika screamed out.

These were the only moments where Abby didn't detest her classmates. They recognized Jo-Vaughn's talent, if they didn't boost him up like they did, he probably wouldn't have the same amount of passion that he has now and chuck his skill away. Like most of the boys here did.

Jo-Vaughn chuckled his bright ass smile and hugged his opponent.

The bell blared through out the hallway making everyone groan.

"Aight, y'all know what that means, take y'all black asses up out this hall. " Kenny yelled out.

The teens hurried along, swiftly moving past Abby who waited until the last person, to follow up the stairs.

She ran her fingers through her hair, poofing it out even more.

Abby had a round face which helped frame her fro. Her sizable lips puckered in a small smile, as she listened to one of her favorite songs through her red headphones.

From time to time she would have to pick up her faded jeans which was starting to irritate her. She pulled down her dark burgundy sweater and decided to go to the bathroom.

Abby didn't really have to use it, she never does.

She went in and looked at herself in the mirror.

You are beautiful.

She said to herself internally.

Abby had been struggling to make herself content these past days. She doesn't know why, now she couldn't see beauty in herself nor in her life. She sighed and gave herself one last look and walked back out. Since the last bell already rang she would have to get a pass.

As soon as she opened the door she heard a bang, and seen a phone, cracked on the floor.

"Yo what the fuck man?" A deep voice said, she seen his hands pick up the small device running his fingers through the appearing cracks.

Abby recognized that voice anywhere, she cursed under her breath.

"Look I'm sorry I'll pay for i-" Abby started rambling while keeping her head down.

He stared down at her, a little shocked to say the most. He had been going to the same school with this broad for years, and this is the first time he ever heard her speak.

"It's fine." He replied coolly.

Though Jo-Vaughn was thoroughly upset, he had just gotten the phone a week ago, but he was too busy staring at her to care at the moment.

She stared at the phone and him for a second before muttering another sorry and hurrying up the stairs, neglecting to get her late pass.

Jo-Vaughn sighed and stared at his phone.
