I walked around like a ghost for the next few days. I didn't eat, I didn't talk, I just wandered around aimlessly. Mackenzie was too busy being pampered for the selection to talk to me or care about me. She kept having countless people coming in and out of my home. It was heart breaking seeing all of these people coming in and out, with forms to sign, rules to read, makeup, clothes. But it wasn't for me. None of it was and it never would be. I tried tk avoid them as much as possible but Mackenzie was heartless. I thought she was my friend. I treated her like a sister but she was so cruel.
"Oh Deira, could you get the door? It's probably somebody else from the selection. I'm a bit busy reading through these forms that I have to sign,"
Of course I went and opened it and just as she thought it was someone from the selection.
After a couple of fays the amount of people coming in and out slowed but it was a Monday morning when I snapped. I was so sick of seeing all these people that when some guy came in saying he was here to see 'Lady Mackenzie' I couldn't take it anymore. I just pushed passed him and ran out of the door./\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\
I walked around for what felt like hours until I found myself outside of the province office. The place where I first realised how deeply I wanted this. I just stood there looking at where I smiled for my application photo.
"Hurts doesn't it," A voice said beside me. I turned around and found myself looking at Rhea.
"Rhea," I hugged her, the only person who I thought I could call a friend.
"Hey Deira," She smiled sadly at me. "It's horrible isn't it. The thought, the hope that it could have been you,"
"Yeah. Yes, it definitely is," The fake smile I jad tried to put up dropped from my face as the corners of my mouth turned down.
"Now that they know I won't be in the selection, my parents are pressuring me into marrying. The want me to marry up but it's hard. Nobody wants to marry a lowly seven. My older sister managed to get a five but she is so much prettier than me. I know that my parents only want whats best for me but it's so hard. I don't suppose you've had any proposals recently?" What she was saying was so sad. There was only one thing that I could think of.
"Would your parents be pleased with a two?"
"They would be ecstatic but no two would marry me,"
"Have you ever heard of Silon Creal?"
"The famous movie star. Isn't he the one that tries to help all the lower castes,"
"That's him."
"What about him?"
"My full name is Deira Sienne Leone. My mothers maiden name is Lydia Creal. Silon's dad is my uncle,"
"That's very nice but how is that relevant to me?"
"I could set you up. Me and Silon have always been bery close and he would marry you in a second if I say the words,"
"You would do that for me. A seven you barely know?"
"I would do anything for a friend and that's what you are to me. A friend," She hugged me so hard.
"I will never forget this. It's a shame really. You really would have made the best princess,"
"Thank you, but we both know that that is never going to happen now,"
"I wouldn't be sure. The house that I work at. They have a lot of sixes as servants and the girl from our province, she was talking to a six. They don't know I heard them but I have some very useful information," She looked so sly as a plan formulated in her head.
"What are you going to do?"
"Don't worry about it, just consider it payment,"
"Of course, goodbye Rhea, I hope tou and Silon hit it off,"
"Bye Deira, I consider you my friend too and I will never forget the kindness you have shown me." With that we both walked away./\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\
As I was headed home I felt a slight bouce to my feet. Helping Rhea made me feel like I could make a difference. So rather than focusing on my misery I started focusing on helping others. I started eating again and I could see the worry lines leave Mom and Dad's faces. It was a friday night when I was walking around town when I bumbed into an old friend of mine.
"Alex," I smiled warmly at the blue haired boy opposite me. Alex was a two like me and was breaking into the pop world, "How are you?""I'm good," He gave me a hug, "But I heard you were not so good after the lottery last friday. It was one of your maids that got picked wasn't it?"
"Yeah, that stung. Now she's acting as if she's already princess," I did an imitation of her ordering people aboit and Alex threw back his head in laughter. "Thank god she'll be gone with the other selected tomorrow,"
"Yeah at least that's happening, but you still haven't answered my question," He mock glared at me.
"I was really down before but I think I'm alright now," As I said the words I knew then to be true.
"That's good. I'm glad you're happy. Anyway I have to go now. My mother is expecting me back for the report," He made a face at me, "And I'm sure yours will be expecting you but we should catch up sometime. Maybe during your maids leaving ceremony,"
"Yeah, I'd like that," I smiled at him and gave Alex one more hug before we parted ways.

I had been home for less then a minute before the doorbell rang. I had literally only had time to take my coat and shoes off but I instantly noticed how quiet it was. I had prepared myself for Mackenzie shouting and telling people what to do. I opened the door bell and there stood the same man whom I had run past on Monday.
"Hello," I smiled trying to make amends for my previous rudeness, "Are you here to talk to Mackenzie? I'll just call her for you," But just as I turned to shout for her the mans arm stopped me and I turned back around to face him.
"No I'm not here to see her. I'm here to see a Miss Deira Leone," He looked at his paper to check the name was correct.
"I am she," I was so confused, wasn't this man meant to be dealing with the selected.
"Congratulations my Lady, you are now one of the selected,"
Are you confused yet? All will be explained in the next chapter. Or maybe the one after. I dunno. Anyway... Moohahahahah!!
