age: thirteen
Audrey is thirteen,
and she has moved away;
away from all the heart ache,
away from all the pain.
She keeps her heart at bay
and hides it from her sleeve;
as she knew she wouldn't be able to
protect it if someone leaves.
But then there came a boy,
and Dominique was his name.
Another James in a manner of speaking;
different, but the same.
While walking to her class,
he would catch her eye;
and when his green ones would meet hers,
he would flash her a smile.
But Audrey bows her head,
unable to believe;
in fairytales and ever afters
when they're all just lies and deceit.
Dominique would furrow his eyebrows
but Audrey doesn't know;
because when he would try to wave at her,
she would duck her head and go.
Dominique is confused:
he felt immediately what was wrong.
The new girl that he liked so well
had turned out to be a broken song.
Where her tunes played soft,
they were far from sweet and happy;
each pitch was a cracked sound
that wasn't anything like a melody.
He couldn't possibly know,
that there's another boy she misses;
whose kisses would be solution
to fixing her jagged pieces.
So Dominique resolves to find
a way to make Audrey laugh;
though he might not be the boy she seeks
he'll try his hardest to be her staff.
