age: fifteen
Dominique fixed his tie
and gave the mirror a once over.
Though he was only visiting Audrey,
he felt the need to impress her.
After nearly three years
of just keeping a watchful eye,
just the idea of being with Audrey
was making Dominique sigh.
Of course, there was no denying
that he was a nervous wreck;
even after everything,
he still couldn't keep his emotions in check.
For that was what Audrey did:
she turned his world upside down;
when before he wouldn't even dare to smile
now, he's the motherfucking clown.
And though Dominique didn't know
what motherfucking means,
the word felt as intense
and felt synonymous to his feelings.
He blew a breath and looked again
to make sure that he was ready.
But he knew that he would never be
because just the thought of her was deadly.
"Dominique," his mother called,
"it's really time to go.
If you kept at that any longer,
Audrey will think that you're a no-show."
And so off he went to Audrey's house
just a few blocks away;
but when she stepped outside to meet him,
he found himself with nothing to say.
"Hi," was what came out his mouth
and Dominique's face turned red.
Because isn't there more suitable words,
to say to the girl you can't get out of your head?
Like "Wow, you're lovely."
"Thanks for giving me a chance."
"When I first saw you, I knew I liked you
but not once did you spare me a glance."
