Chapter Thirty Four:
I wake up to the sound of his soft breathing. My eyes flutter open to see that I am laying on his bare chest. I can feel his heart beatings as his fingers run through my hair.
"Wake up, beautiful." I hear him mumble against my ear.
I toss my body to the other side. His grip on me tightens. "But I'm so tired." I whine.
"But, Abby, it's Christmas."
If I were still ten years old and believed in Santa, that one sentence would've sent me jumping out of bed. Christmas was amazing back when you still believed in him and got all excited for the presents he's left you. Christmas was always my favorite holiday.
It still is, but now everything was a lot less exciting. Even after I stopped believing in Santa, I was still happy for the presents I'd receive from my dad and my other relatives. But now? How was I supposed to be hopping out of bed with joy now that I don't even live with my father anymore. So I can check his gift off the list. All my relatives are back in Indiana. It's gotten to the point where the only person I have is Jeydon. And even he's leaving me.
"I said, it's Christmas!" Jeydon repeats.
"Yeah, I heard you the first time." I tell him with a sigh.
He frowns. "That's no attitude to have on Christmas."
I sit up in bed. "Jeydon I love you for trying but what is there to be excited for? Now that it's Christmas it just means you're one day closer to leaving me. Our parents aren't even here to celebrate with us."
He smirks. "Why don't you follow me into the living room?"
I raise an eyebrow. "What for?"
He rolls his eyes at me. "If you won't come I guess I'll just have to carry you there."
"Jeydon what are you-ahh!"
He swiftly scoops me up in his arms and throws me over his shoulders. He walks me to the bedroom door but stops in his tracks.
"Whoops, before I forget.." He digs in his pocket and pulls something out. A mistletoe. He stretches out his arm so they the mistletoe is above us. "Hey, look what it is!" He smirks.
"Gee, I wonder how that got there," I giggle.
"You know what a mistletoe means," he says.
I smile. "I do."
Still in his arms, I wrap my arms around his neck and he plants his lips on mine. The kiss starts to deepen and he softly nibbles on my bottom lip. I slightly part my lips, giving Jeydon entrance. His tongue slips in and our tongues begin to battle.
Just as we're really getting into it, there's a knock at the door.
Our lips part and Jeydon runs his fingers through his hair.
"Who could that be?" I ask.
Jeydon shrugs. "Maybe Christmas carolers? Can you go get the door and find out?"
"Cockblocks." I mutter as I walk to the door. I hear Jeydon laugh behind me.
I swing open the door and am shocked at who is standing behind it.
Our parents.
Kate was also standing in between them. Honestly, they were the last people I was expecting to show up.
"Merry Christmas, Abs."
I still stand shocked. "But, h-how?"
My dad looks over my shoulder. "You didn't tell her?"
I turn around to see Jeydon leaning up against the wall. "I wanted it to be a surprise." He says.
"Did you really think we wouldn't come for Christmas, Abby?" Ashley asks.
"Kinda," I admit.
"Jey!!!" Kate screams as she runs toward Jeydon and tackles him to the ground.
After everyone's settled inside, we all sit at the kitchen table and have hot chocolate.
"So, are you excited about going to California, Jeydon?" Dad asks.
I try to not make a face. I'd rather not have him speak about Jeydon leaving to California right now.
Jeydon nods with a smile. "Yeah, I am."
"You should be!" Dad pats him on the back. "I'm proud of you."
I'm really glad they're bonding but I'd love if they talked about anything else but that.
Dad finally turns to me. "Abby, would you mind getting your presents out of the car?" He tosses me the keys.
All of a sudden my mood is flipped. I don't know if I heard him right but I believe he said he has presents for me. For some reason I'm extremely shocked considering we haven't spoken in a whole since I moved out. First he shows up here, and now he has presents? This day just keeps getting crazier.
I take his keys and go outside into his car. There four presents neatly wrapped. I'm guessing Ashley did the wrapping since my dad can't wrap presents to save his life.
I carry all the presents out and lock the car before returning inside my apartment.
"Ho ho ho!" I chant as I walk inside holding the gifts.
"You guys really didn't have to get me anything." Jeydon says. "Your presence is enough."
"Well if you don't want your presents I'll take them." I say, sticking my tongue out at him. He returns the favor.
"Wait!" Ashley says. "Before you open your presents, your father and I have an announcement to make."
I furrow my eyebrows. I wonder what this announcement could be about?
"So, Jeydon and Abby, I want the two of you to have a seat."
Jeydon and I exchange looks before doing as told.
Ashley lightly drums her fingers on the table with my father sitting right next to her.
"Okay," she starts off. "So your father and I have been talking about this for some time."
"A long time." Dad adds.
She rolls her eyes at him. "Yes it was quite a lot of talking. But we know that you guys have been having a secret relationship going on, which is why you moved. Well this made us realize how much both of you care for each other and how desperate you are to be together. Especially when you both went out to get jobs just to pay for the rent to live together. This took a lot of convincing to your dad, so you guys can thank me for this. Since we can tell how much you want this, we are going to allow you two to be in a relationship."
My ears will not believe what they just heard. Jeydon's mother, my stepmother just told us that it is okay for Jeydon and I to date. My dad even agreed to this. I turn to look at Jeydon. He has the biggest smile on his face.
"But!" My dad quickly says.
I should've known there would be consequences.
"There will be no public display of affection when we are here. Also when with other family members. For now we will have to keep your relationship a secret, got it?"
Jeydon and I nod in unison.
"Also, Abby has to move back in."
"I accept." I raise my hand.
I honestly was planning on asking this eventually since Jeydon was leaving and I didn't want to be all alone.
"So what?" Ashley asks. "No hug? No 'you're the greatest mom ever'?"
I jump out of my seat and attack her into a hug. I'm so happy right now that I never want to let go. Jeydon and I are in a relationship. Our parents are okay with it. I'm dating my stepbrother. If someone had told me this would be happening a year ago I would've laughed in their face.
"It's snowing!!" I hear Kate's voice cry out.
I turn around to see her sitting by the window watching the snowflakes fall. Sure enough, it's snowing.
"Snowball fight?" Jeydon challenges me.
"You're going to college in a few days and you still have snowball fights?" Dad asks as he shakes his head, laughing.
I ignore my dad's statement. "It's on."
Kate, Jeydon, and I all race outside. Once I'm outside, I grab a pile of snow and toss it at Jeydon. He ducks successfully.
While I'm trying to throw snowballs at Jeydon, Kate tosses a snowball and it hits me right in the chest.
"Nooo!" I fake collapsing to the ground as if I'd just been shot by someone with an actual gun.
I would have to admit, this has been the best Christmas ever.

One week later
"Do you have your Chapstick?" Ashley asks hurriedly as Jeydon zips up his suitcase.
"Yes, I have my Chapstick, mom." He chuckles. "Even if I didn't, I could always buy one in California. They're only like a dollar."
"No way, everything there is going to be way more expensive than it is here in New York. You have your card, right?"
He holds it up in the air. "Check."
"How about your passport?" She asks.
"I have everything, mom."
"Are you sure you don't want me to drive you to the airport?"
He shakes his head. "Abby and I will be fine."
"Well, Jeydon, you'd better make a move if you don't want to miss your flight." Dad reminds him.
He nods. "You're right. Bye, James."
Dad wraps Jeydon in an embrace. "You can all me dad." He says, pulling back.
"Alright." Jeydon smiles. "Bye, dad."
Dad grins. "Be good, alright? Make good decisions." He quickly ruffles his hair before Jeydon moves on to his mother.
"Bye, mom." Jeydon gives her a hug. "I love you."
Ashley's eyes are watery as she runs her fingers through his hair. "I love you too, Jeydon. Gosh, I'll miss you so much. I can't believe my baby boy is going off to college. Not just any college, but the same one your father went to. Do you know how proud I am?"
He gives her a sad smile. "I can hardly believe it either."
They pull apart and I notice a tear roll down Ashely's cheek. I feel so sad for her. It must be hard watching your child leave to go to college.
Jeydon gets down on his knees so he's around the same height as Kate.
"Hey Kate." He gives her a smile.
She pouts. "I don't wanna say bye, Jey. I'll miss you too much."
He sighs sadly. "Oh, Kate. I'm going to miss you so much. But you know what? We don't have to say bye. How about we say hello? Because it won't be too long until I see you again."
She slowly nods. "Okay, hi Jeydon."
The corner of his lips curve a bit. "Hello Kate."
He picks her up and tightly holds her in his arms as if she's the most fragile thing he's ever laid his hands on.
He plants a big kiss on her cheek before setting her back down on the ground. Jeydon then turns to me.
"Shall we go, my lady?"
I give him a small smile. "We shall."
Jeydon gives a last wave and goodbye to everyone before we both head out to the car.
After piling his suitcases in the trunk, I get into the passengers seat and Jeydon begins to drive.
It's a long silent drive as I stare out the window. I try to not think of the fact that it won't be too long until Jeydon boards his plane and leaves. As I stare out the window, I notice the snow falling gracefully onto the window.
"Shit." I hear Jeydon mutter.
"What's wrong?" I ask, turning my head to him.
"The windshield wipers stopped working. I can't see anything with all this snow. I'm going to have to pull over."
Is it wrong that I was hoping this would cause him to miss his flight? Therefore him spending more time with me before leaving? I'm such a shitty girlfriend.
He pulls over into a McDonalds parking lot. He turns off the engine and pulls out his phone.
"I'm going to call a taxi to pick us up and take us to the airport. I'll call your dad to pick you up at the airport because I'm not letting you take a taxi home alone."
I nod with a smile on my face because of how much he cared for me. Once Jeydon made the call to the taxi company and was informed on a fifteen minute wait, he put his phone back in his pocket.
"Want to wait outside?" He asked me.
I nod again. "Sure."
We both get out and sit on the hood of the car.
"Are you going to miss me?" He asks, looking into my eyes.
I frown, surprised he would even ask that question.
"Of course I'm going to miss you. Why wouldn't I?"
"I don't know," he shrugs. "It just seems like you haven't talked to me much all day. You haven't even said a word in the car."
I sigh. "That's because I'm trying not to think about the fact that you're leaving too much. It honestly kills me and I thought that might help so I won't be too upset. But obviously that hasn't been working."
He scoots closer to me and cups my face in his hand. "Hey, you're not the only one. I've really been dreading this day. I doubt I'll be able to even focus in college because all I'll ever be doing is thinking of you."
I run my fingers through his hair with a smirk. "Don't make me the reason for you failing. It'll only be one year without me and then we'll see each other everyday."
He grins. "Then after graduating college can we get a pet monkey and name it Steve and then get married and have kids and grow old together?"
I laugh. "I can't wait."
"Me either." He whispers just as he inches closer and plants his lips on mine.
I pull back for air just as a taxi pulls into the parking lot.
"There's our ride." Jeydon mumbles, hopping off the car hood. He then holds out his hand and helps me off.
The drive from McDonalds to the airport is about fifteen minutes. Even though it seems like two. Everything just seems to go by so quickly today.
Jeydon pays the taxi driver and we both quickly shuffle into the airport. As soon as we enter I hear a lady's voice on the speakers.
"Flight thirty two is now boarding. I repeat, flight thirty two is now boarding."
Jeydon quickly searches for his ticket and then lets out a loud groan when he reads it.
"Let me guess, you're flight thirty two?" I ask.
"You guessed it." He sighs.
Right now everything just seems so wrong. Why did this have to happen to us? Especially right when our parents allow us to date, he has to go to California. I'm so proud of him for getting accepted into his dream college but it just seems like everything for me is crashing and breaking down.
That's when tears start to stream down my face. I can't even control them anymore. I've been holding them back for so long that it's gotten to the point where I'm not even going to try and pretend.
"Well, I g-guess this is goodbye." I say, choking on my own tears. "I'll miss you so much." I bury my head in his chest and pull him into a hug.
He rests his chin on top of my head and rubs my back in circles. I pull back to wipe at my eyes. I look into his and am a little surprised to see his eyes are watery.
"No, Abby. This isn't goodbye. Like you said, just one more year until we see each other everyday. This is more of a..see you later."
I wipe my eyes dry and nod, agreeing with him. "You're right." I say. "See you later, Jeydon."
His eyes filled with sorrow, he gives me a sad smile. "See you later, Abby."
He wraps his arms around my waist and pulls me to him so that there is no space in between us. He leans his forehead against mine and stares at my lips and he bites his.
Then he gently presses his lips against mine and kisses me passionately and slow. All I want to do is stay in this position kissing him forever.
"Last boarding for flight thirty two!" The same lady calls.
"I love you, Jeydon."
He smiles with his eyes. "I love you, Abby."
He quickly pecks my lips before going to the boarding gates. Just as he's about to enter the terminal, he turns around and gives me one last look. He blows me a kiss and gives me a wink. I laugh and return the favor.
I then sit down and watch as his plane flies off. That's it. Jeydon is gone.
It is three o'clock in the morning as I lay in my bed wide awake. Yes, my actual bed. Not the one in the apartment I used to rent but my real home.
Why am I up at three in the morning, you might ask. Well there is possibly no way for me to sleep in peace without knowing Jeydon has safely arrived in California. He was supposed to reach there an hour ago but I still haven't received a call from him.
Just as I'm about to grab my phone and give him a call, my phone rings. It's him.
"Hello?" I quickly answer, eager to hear his voice.
"Hey," he says groggily. I can tell he's smiling on the other line. "Are you awake?"
"No, that's why I answered the phone." I say teasingly.
He chuckles. "Can you video chat right now?"
"Yeah, of course." I say, balancing my phone between my ear and shoulder as I open up my laptop.
"Sorry I took so long to call. I just got settled into my dorm."
"No problem." I smile. "It's just great to hear your voice."
I log into Skype and see that Jeydon is online. I quickly click on him and wait for him to answer the video call.
As soon as I see his face sitting cross legged on a bed in his dorm, I hang up the phone.
"Hey, beautiful." He smiles when he sees me.
"Hey there yourself." I grin as I rest my head in my hand.
"I know this is really late but I wanted to show you something."
Before I can respond, he pulls out a guitar and starts to play a familiar tune. Then he begins to sing.
"Hey there, Abby, what's it like in New York City? I'm a thousand miles away but girl tonight you look so pretty yes you do. Times Square can't shine as bright as you, I swear it's true."
I immediately begin to blush like an idiot as he continues playing the guitar and singing. It's official, I have the best boyfriend ever.
"Hey there Abby don't you worry about the distance. I'm right there if you get lonely give this song another listen
Close your eyes, listen to my voice it's my disguise. I'm by your side."
"Hey there, Abby
You be good and don't you miss me
One more year and you'll be done with school
And I'll be making history like I do..
Oh it's what you do to me, oh it's what you do to me. What you do to me."
"Was that too cheesy?" He asks once he's finished strumming the guitar.
"Not at all. I loved it, Jeydon."
"Not as much as you love me though, right?" He asks.
I giggle. "Of course not."
"Good." He smirks. "I just thought that song described our situation perfectly. I had to sing it to you."
"I'd love to talk more but it's getting pretty late and I'm starting to get tired." I let out a yawn.
"Oh," he says. "I'd hate to keep you up. Good night and sweet dreams, beautiful. I love you so much."
He blows me a kiss and I blow him one right back.
Its just a few months until Spring break. Then I'll be able to see him again. I'll be able to kiss those lips and be in his arms. Then shortly after it'll be Summer. Then before I know it, I'll be done with high school and we'll be together for good. Maybe this won't be too bad after all. Alright, long distance, I'm ready to tackle you. Let's go.
"I love you too, Jeydon."
And I really, really do.
The End
---
It took me long enough, but I finally finished this book! It's kinda sad to see this story all completed. I hope this chapter wasn't lame and cheesy, LOL.
Although I feel like I was really lazy with this chapter and didn't put much effort into it mostly because I became less interested in this story since I've started writing a new story which I'm extremely excited to share with you. I should be posting it real soon!
But I've been planning out the whole Hey There Delilah thing for a while since I knew it'd be cute ^.^
Btw I apologize for the extremely late update. I typed the whole chapter out a while ago but being the idiot I am, I forgot to save it. >.<
P.s. my new story which I will be posting soon will be called "Bad Boy with a Secret". Trust me, it's gonna be goood ;)
