The cold and sharp air nipped at your cheeks and nose as you watched the white mist of your breath float and disperse in front of you each time you let out air from your lungs.  Your ear and body were protected by the big fuzzy coat your captain had provided you, the fire from the tin pit lit up behind you with the men surrounding it, smiling and laughing and telling jokes as the fire rose.  They sang shanties and danced around on the wooden planks, cheering and raising drinks and giving toasts to their friends, and their captain.  It was usually quiet on the ship since it was constantly on the move, traveling to place to place nearly everyday, but tonight was special, why you didn't know because Shay Cormac had suddenly given the word that the crew would drink and eat tonight.  It puzzled you and you didn't really want to indulge yourself in the treats given on deck until you knew what was going on.  Since stopping for the night, you hadn't seen Shay address his men or even appear on deck; where was he?

You leaned over the wooden railing, arms propping your upper body up and eyes scanning the horizon; the moon shone on the white ice, illuminating crystals in shining specks of light.  Seagulls flew overhead, letting you see only their dark shadows circling over an area of water, most likely a fishing spot.  You watched for a moment longer before straightening your back out and pulling your fur coat closer to you as you turned towards the men.  Once you approached the fire some of the crew members greeted you with warm smiles and laughter, and even a drink.

"Here ya are!" one of the men said with your mug of beer in his hand.  You smile kindly and laugh along with him, gladly taking the drink her offers you and taking a sip.  It went down smoothly and was cool as it hit your throat; it tasted wonderful even on this cold night.

"You boys having fun?" you ask.  They give out hearty laughs and gently pat your back.

"Hell of a time!" one said.  "How 'bout you?"

You shrugged.

"A little cold, but I'll live.  Have you seen the captain?"

He shakes his head no.    Sighing, you pat his shoulder and smile before turning for the head of the ship.  You made your way past the cannons and stood just behind the front railing of the Morrigan; the sky seemed brighter then, even with the moon out, and it was suspiciously warmer than minutes before.  You stared out over the icebergs, sipping on your drink.

"Enjoying the view, love?"

That Irish accent sent shivers down your back, but made you smile nonetheless.  You turned around to see Shay Cormac, your captain, smiling sweetly at you as you held your mug close to you.  He slowly walked up to you and leaned against the railing beside you, watching as you turn the same direction.  The view seemed quite different with Shay beside you, almost serene, peaceful.  You couldn't help but feel a bit shy, your cheeks burning slightly.

"Why aren't you by the fire?"  Shay asked.  "You ought to be cold."

You chuckle.

"After all the shit we've gone through, I'm pretty used to cold weather by now."

Laughing, Shay straightens up and looks out at the horizon, letting out a long and loud sigh before turning his gaze to you.  His eyes are piercing into yours, and you have to look away.

"I was never one much for parties anyways." you say.  "Speaking of which; why are we doing this Shay?  This rarely ever happens, you must have a reason, especially in this part of the sea."
