thoth's bushy eyebrows skyrocketed. "so you know mr. kaku!"

know him? he's my lovely bitch. i didn't say though. "yes, yes i do."

he narrowed his eyes, smiling faintly. "do you know by chance, a boy named jonathan freeman?"

my face blanked. "jordie?"

"ah-ho!" cried thoth. "you must be their lee bee! i've heard so much about you from jordie." he looked back at the picture. "jordie gave me this picture recently. he knew i love any kind of art, so he got me this." he smiled good-naturally, and i couldn't help but smile as well. "jordie and you, good friends."

i laughed. "yeah, masa, jordie, and i. we have this small circle of friends."

he nodded to me smiling. and then he greeted the roberts boys, who were surprisingly stiff, somewhat formal. until finally saying, "so. how may i help you?"

and so, we began talking about my predicament in terms of jobs.

this was what happened. the bookstore isn't that really busy, with less people coming, especially in the mornings. weekdays, it was open 1-5 pm, while on saturday, it was from 10-11 am and 1-3 pm. sundays, thoth's place were not open.

ms. sweets said that the bakery/cafe/dress store was opened from 10 am to 4 pm during the weekdays. on saturday, it was from 10 am to 2 pm. sundays were not open as well.

my shift at the hospital is only two nights a month. i'd just have to ask for sunday nights. perfect.

i thanked mr. thoth for his time, and told him that i'll see what i can do about the other sweet's kisses workers and their schedule. he returned the thanks and saying, "i'll be looking forward to it. i'll tell jordie you visited!"

i smiled. "i'll be sure to text him soon, too."

kyle looked at me, while jamie glanced at me. kyle started the engine, saying, "you know what, i could've sworn, that it was us two," he indicated him and jamie, "who lived here in marina's pearl, and not you."

i rolled my eyes. "you know, i go here, too, you know, during summers"

"yeah, but like. you know frankie, despite the fact i've only heard of her through rumors. she's the girl who pranked mr. exupery. like seriously. no one ever pranks mr. exupery and lived to tell the tale. let alone upload it to twitter."

jamie nodded his head. "she's like a living legend that few people ever met face to face."

i shrugged. "frankie's shy, and usually keeps to herself."

"sounds like someone i know," and kyle looked at jamie.

jamie raised an eyebrow. "what? at least people have seen and met me."

"true."

"anyways, though, lee. you've met frankie sweets and you know more about thoth than anyone else in village square. i swear, he had been here since the dinosaur age."

i recalled thoth's pot belly and warm smile. he looked like he just reached his early forties. "he's not that old. and besides. thoth usually keeps to himself, too, okay?"

thoth's a cool guy. weird, but cool. he can do things no one else could, like play the harmonica, build a wooden boat and canoe out of scratch, astronomy, survive in the wild like some kind of navy seal, shoot a moving turkey from a mile a way, and recite all kinds of mythology, not limited to greek or roman. he got bitten by three poisonous snakes and still freaking lived.

"thoth's a nice guy, okay, but he's best friends with cracked casing," kyle immediately shut his mouth.

i frowned. "okay, i think the nickname's fitting, but he's just so..." i thought for a second, "colorful."
