Storms make trees take deeper roots.

The sun rose and stung Kenna's eyes while her roommates groaned in protest. She had been wake for half an hour before them, staring blanking at the wall.

She had been listening for something. The tapping of footsteps which would be too loud and signal something, the shift in atmosphere from warm to deadly or even the small, buzzing noise that irritated her ears and triggered her scream.

However, nothing came. The night was silent, dark, and sleeping. Kenna rose when everybody else did, she dressed at the same time, and left the room at the same time.

The halls were full of excited students as Kenna, Teddy and Hanna walked to their first potions lesson of the year. Kenna tried to settle her disappointment at finding out she still had Slughorn who would be all over the Slytherin's.

"It can't be worse then last year. It just simply can't," Hanna exaggerated as they entered the small room.

Kenna smiled at her friend; Hanna will always have a strong hatred for the Slytherin's.

As soon as she entered the room, Kenna spotted Tom. She didn't wave or smile at him as he turned her way. Instead, Kenna nodded politely and took a seat.

She was surprised when Oran pulled up a chair at the table. Teddy said his hello's, surprising Kenna even more that they knew each other, while Hanna just abruptly commented, "aren't you a gorgeous one."

"How do you know each other?" Kenna asked Teddy and Oran.

Teddy shrugged. "I've talked about him before. You must have not been listening."

It was a simple and innocent comment from Teddy but it still stung Kenna. Oran must have noticed as he pinched her forearm and smiled warmly.

"She has a lot to talk about herself, this one. Girls like you don't have time for listening. Except for the sound of your footsteps, of course".

Kenna pinched his arm and smiled in return. As the lesson dragged on, with Slughorn favouriting the Slytherins as expected, Kenna didn't feel so bored.

Hanna talked a lot to fill up the space, Teddy did a lot of stuff wrong with a hilarious end result, and Oran made her laugh like she hadn't laughed in a while.

When the lesson finished, Hanna and Teddy went to their Herbology lesson while Kenna headed to the Gryffindor tower for her free period.

"Have you got a free period too?" Oran asked as he jogged to catch up with her. Kenna nodded and Oran smiled.

"Great, let's go to the lake. You can tell me some more of your story, miss Karamakov."

With one hand full of book, Kenna let Oran lead her down to the lake using her other hand to guide her. The weather was breezy but had a warm touch to it as the sun brushed away the clouds.

The grass was dry and last seasons flowers still planted in the dry soil. Only the tough ones stayed strong while the others started to peel away. Trees were beginning to change, becoming the colours of a mild fire ready to burst. Kenna thought autumn was a beautiful season.

While walking, Kenna watched the sky instead, listening to every gush of the faint wind and every tip toe of the surviving clouds.
