A beautiful duck pond sat outside of the indoor pet shed. A few children were leaning precariously close to the edge, close enough that they might fall in, throwing bread out to the ducks. A few swans and geese were swimming around as well. Beth readied her bag of duck feed and threw a handful into the water. One small duck climbed out of the water to grab some of the food which had been dropped in the mud.
"No, buddy. Here, have this." Beth kneeled and held out a handful of food. The food settled in the palm of her hand.
The duck was apprehensive, but approached anyway. It waltzed slowly over to her hand and buried its beak in her palm. Sean took a sneaky photo, just as Beth let out a small 'aw'. Her cheeks reddened slightly and she placed her empty hand on the side of her face. Sean took the photo from the top and slipped it into his hoodie pocket. Once the food was gone, she lowered both of her hands to her bent knees. The duck seemed confused as to why he wasn't being fed anymore.
"No more, bud. I don't have any left." He waddled away, somewhat sad-looking. "Aw, poor guy."
"Come on. Let's go on to where the pigs and sheep are." Beth slowly rose to her feet, waving to the duck as she went.
"I'm calling him Sam. Bye, Sam."
They strolled down the short path to where the pig, sheep and cow pens were kept. Immediately, the loud, bellowing mooing from the cows rang out. They then came into sight, the entire area around the cow pen empty. Beth walked to one of them and set her hand on its head. She scratched along its snout with a wide smile.
"I love cows."
"I know. Your Skype picture was a cow for about two years."
"One and a half, actually, and they're cute." She grabbed his hand and guided it to the side of the cow's neck. "Doesn't this feel awesome?"
"Well, kind of."
"Don't deny how cool this is. Have you ever been this close to a cow?"
"Yes. I have. And a horse."
"Oh yeah. In your nature vlog." He let out a loud chuckle.
"Why has everyone suddenly started referencing that again?"
"People love nature."
Her eyes then travelled over to where a short fence stood. Three brown, spotted pigs crowded around that area of fence, snorting at the air. Beth gasped and dashed over to them. Her feet slapped and squelched slightly in the wet mud.
"Look at this little guy squished in the middle." She kneeled again and stuck her hand through the bars with a small amount of food in her palm. The smallest pig nuzzled into it and wolfed down the food. She pulled her hand away, covered in slobber. "Gross."
"Very."
"Can I wipe it on your leg?" She inched her hand closer to his jeans. Sean quickly backed away, almost slipping over in the mud.
"No you bloody well cannot."
"Come pet the pigs." She grabbed a tissue from her pocket and cleaned her hand as best she could. "I'll use some hand sanitizer in a bit." She then went to scratch the biggest pig on the belly. He rolled over, mud covering the majority of his body. Sean gave his attention to one of the smaller pigs and even fed it some of the feed he had bought.
"I never realised how cute pigs were." One of them snorted and rolled over. Sean let out a light laugh. "God, I feel like a child."
"I'm the baby in this friendship. I still feel like an adult. Also, I just think about the fact that I could technically buy one of these." She cooed at the animal. Sean checked his watch.
