Ghosts

We shouldn't be afraid of the dark.
Ghosts lurking aren't just a figment of your imagination,
They are the denial
that those conquered by death
have escaped oblivion.
No matter how much we wish,
Shooting stars don't bring back
A fragment of our hearts,
A fragment of ourselves.

They die with us.
They die within us.

Maybe there's a God,
Maybe there's a heaven,
But for the decades to come,
They will exist only as memories,
which we all know
is the same as
ceasing to exist.
