Starting off with the most notable of the veterans is Mario. A plumber by career, and a hero by reputation. He is an all around fighter, with a wide variety of skills, and moves to help him stay in the game. Ever since the first tournament he has been surprising the viewers with his fighting style. Switching it up with every fight, he can easily change the flow of the match to suit his needs. Wither it be fending off the opponent from a distance, or pummeling the unfortunate foe in close quarters.

He has the ability to manipulate fire, grow in size, or even fly for short periods of time. His arsenal of moves is not just limited to those. He can also wield ice and deflect most, if not all projectiles that come at him. Certainly a deadly foe to contend with.

During the first Super Smash Bros., Mario was ultimately denied a win that was thought to be his, when he was knocked out by Capt. Falcon's "Falcon Punch." It wasn't until the second tournament when Mario had gotten a another chance to fight Capt. Falcon. Though it had been a long and exhausting match, Mario came out on top and proceeded to the finals, to where he would claim the title of champ for the Super Smash Bros. Melee tournament. Though in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Mario would lose this title when he was taken out by Snake in the preliminaries, when Snake had used the smash ball to secure his win.

Then there is Luigi, the younger of the two brothers. Like his brother, Luigi has been in all the tournaments so far. Though do to his meek demeanor and his inability to tolerate fear, Luigi has never made it past the second round, but this time around he seems to have overcome that.

Luigi, like Mario, is also a plumber by trade, and a hero by reputation. He also has a wide variety of moves to choose from like his older brother. Luigi can control both fire and lightning freely, as well as any other abilities that Mario can access. He can turn himself into a human missile when ever he pleases, and if used correctly, this technique can help him recover from a potential KO. There are tons of other tricks that he keeps up his sleeves, such as his alter, Mr. L.

Luigi has the potiental to be a top contender, but his timid personality holds him back. If he were to wield all of his power to its full extent, he would even give Mario a run for his coins. Maybe this is the year he finally places in the top three.

Both Luigi and Mario will be sporting their gloves from when they were in the "Mario Strikers Charged" tournament. Their slacks and overalls were also changed, though due to them looking just like the previous pair, it's hard to notice.

Though what are heroes with out a villain? That is where our next veteran comes in. The king of koopas, Bowser, keeps Mario and Luigi busy by kidnapping the princess. Over the years, Bowser has obtain and lost many powers. Some that gave him unparalleled power, others the ability to grow to planetary sizes. Though no matter how much of an advantage he would have over his Nemesis, he would always lose.

Bowser, since he first entered the tournament back in Melee, has been a powerhouse. He knew this and had fun pummeling his opponents. Though he wasn't the fastest of any of the fighters, and often had a hard time catching up to his opponents. He won most of his matches not because of his strength, but because of the opponents inability to knock him out of the arena.

His moves, ranging from body slams to breathing fire upon his enemies, fully use his immense strength. If given the opportunity, he could end a match in mere minutes, and if his power isn't enough he can turn into his more beastly self for a short period of time. Giga Bowser, a giant monstrosity that can use the elements to decimate anything to stand against it. With that up his bracelet, and the fact that all the veterans know that he will be faster this time around, many of the other fighters are in fear of the Koopa King.

Then there is the adorable little dinosaur dragon hybrid thingy, that everyone knows and loves, Yoshi. The companion of Mario since he was a little baby, Yoshi has fought the minions of Bowser just as much as Mario has. Though he is limited in means of offensive attacks, Yoshi does what he does best. Jump and engulf his enemies, leaving them helpless to a flurry of relentless combos. It was because of his fast hitting combos that he was able to defeat Ganondorf in both the Melee and Brawl tournament preliminaries.

This seemingly docile dinosaur dragon thing can tap into hits hidden potential, as well as throw its eggs, spit fire or even cause small earthquakes. Mario's little helper may be a terror for him if he ever had to go up against his lovable partner. It's always the innocent looking creatures that get the better of you.

Which accuratly describes the princess of the Mushroom Kingdom. Princess Peach, the source of all controversy in the Mushroom Kingdom, has shocked many fans and fighters (including Mario) when she completed "The Final Showdown" event mission by herself. It showed everyone that she could indeed fight if she wanted to. Even though most of the time she just resigns herself to the side lines and rarely fights in her matches.

Her moves consist of abusing her servant toad and using various items to fight her opponents. Her umbrella, Perry, grants her the ability to use her emotions to grant her specific powers. Not only that she can levitate for a short period of time, and render anyone helpless as she lulls them to sleep with her voice.

Though this time around she is sporting her outfit from the "Mario Strikers Charged" tournament. Along with the wardrobe change, she is also bring some of her moves from the field into the arena. Her "Mega Strike" kick and "Freeze Frame" attack will leave a number on any one on the receiving end of them. It seems that the princess is in it to win it this time around.

Five down, and forty-five some odd more fighters to introduce. Up next will be those returning from Hyrule. Then shortly after that, those from Pocket Monsters will be announced.
