Vicesimus Quintus

•◇•◇•◇•

"It is time for bed," Mother said

Yet the child still jumps and wails

"I'm not sleepy yet, I'm wide awake!"

And to prove his point, he widens his eyes,

jumping off the bed, tightening the blanket

as a cape, around his neck.

His hand busy carrying a shield and plastic sword,

Woosh, woosh! Clank, clank!

Mother sighs with a smile.

The tiredness evident in her eyes.

But the fondness for her child overpowered,

"Come to bed, and I'll sing you a song

and tell you a story," She pats the bed.

Standing in the middle of the room,

The child debates, whether to listen,

or to fly away in haste.

With narrow and suspicious eyes,

He decides and nods, "Okay,

but as long as it's not about those

lame princess tales."

He gets comfortable beneath the blanket,

and Mother begins to tell the story.

No later the child is asleep.

Mother smiles, tucks him in,

while he sees in his dream the stories,

Of mysteries, of adventures,

Of pirates and kings.
