"Her name is Lily, just Lily?" David placed his cup of coffee on the white countertop, leaving a small smear of brown.
Emma, Mary Margaret, and David were once again sitting in the apartment. It was the day following Lily's breakdown in the hospital. Emma and David sat at the kitchen counter while Mary Margaret stood behind the counter twiddling her thumbs in thought.
"All she said was her name, Lily. When we'd asked her what exactly happened, she was already too upset to answer.” Mary Margaret chuckled, “She still seemed a bit traumatized from her mini drug trip you sent her on, Emma."
Emma did not answer, choosing to stare off into space nervously trying to contemplate everything that had just occured. The girl, the shadows, the unknown identity. Just what was going on here?
“You okay Emma?” David set down his coffee and looked at her with concern. “If you have something you need to say, you can tell us”
Emma sighed and stood up from the counter. "I-I have to go meet with her again today. I need to know what's going on and if she's okay." Emma’s voice quivered as she spoke.
"Lily's in the doctor's hands, it’ll all be fine." Mary Margaret rose to her feet and walked over to Emma. “I know she seemed...strange, but everyone seems to be sorting it out just fine.” She laid her hand on Emma's shoulder. “Trust me.”
Emma shook her head, "Why would she break down into tears after I said we had no info about her then? Would a normal girl, even a lost one, do that? It doesn't seem like everything is normal there."
"Well it could be just a after effect from the tranquilizer." David hummed as he stirred his coffee.
“That's true,” Mary Margaret turned back to Emma. “It definitely could've been the tranquilizer. It was slightly odd though when she stared at Henry for several minutes, even I was a little put off by that.”
"I'm pretty sure it's nothing. She's probably just going through a lot right now." David picked up his coffee again and sipped off the froth. "There’s no telling how long she’s been out there by herself. Weeks? Months? Perhaps years? She did look a bit wild is all I’m saying."
Emma slipped on her red jacket and headed for the door. "I have a feeling that she's not telling us the whole truth. She... Lily is hiding something that I need to find out."
"Emma? We have to go into work today! You can't be doing this right now!"
"Sorry, I just need to know!" Emma walked out the door of the apartment. She unlocked her yellow buggy and slipped inside. Emma needed to know what was going on with this mysterious girl.
Emma hurried back to the hospital to talk to Lily. Lily was sitting upright in bed eating a warm bowl of oatmeal while watching a little bird hop along the windowsill. Emma walked into her little room cautiously as to not upset her.
"Hey kiddo, how are you doing?" Emma hesitantly sat on Lily's bed.
"I'm feeling much better now. Thank you for bringing me to the hospital with all of this lovely food." She took another mouthful of oatmeal and munched happily. Lily seemed drastically different from when she had first met Emma. She grinned a big smile and spoke as if nothing had ever happened to her. She was no longer a shaky shell of a person, but rather a bright and shiny ray of sunshine. "Sorry for causing you such grief like that, I hardly ever cry, I just don't know what came over me."
"It's alright Lily, I just wanted to check on you to make sure you were okay."
"I'm fine now, the doctors say that they want to only keep me for a few more days till I get my strength back up again. I'll be out of here in no time." Lily looked back out the window and saw that the bird had flown away, leaving small seeds and crumbs on the windowsill.
"I'm very glad to hear that," Emma let out a sigh of relief "I need to know, for the police report, where did you come from?" Emma reached into her coat pocket and pulled out a pad of paper and a blue pen.
"Honestly Emma, I don't know, I just was minding my own business when one day my world shattered into bits. I remember seeing a rainbow-like burst passing over me. When that happened I realized I didn't know who I was. All I knew was my name and that I was living in an abandoned house near where you found me."
"What abandoned house?" Emma looked up from her writing. A house? What was she talking about?
"It's a large house with a large metal fence with all the windows boarded up. It's mainly stone and in the front yard just behind the fence is a dried up fountain."
"If it's such a large house, then why can't I see it over the tops of the trees?"
"The house is surrounded by gigantic trees that cover the roof. It's pretty easy to miss. But that's not even the weirdest part, the weirdest thing about the house is the library. I dare not go in there because every time I do I hear whispers calling my name. When I do get a glimpse in there from time to time, I see a small locket in the middle of the floor. I think it might have something to do with my past, but I'm too afraid to go in there."
Emma didn't recall there ever being a large abandoned house anywhere in Storybrooke, especially near the town line. She just couldn't figure out what this strange girl was all about. It was like the more she knew, the more questions arose.
"Lily, why didn't you tell someone sooner?"
"I didn't know who to trust, keep in mind that I don't have my memories"
Emma paused for a moment thinking about what exactly this girl had been through. She remembered how she had been robbed of her childhood memories because of the curse too. All the years that she had spent wondering where she came from, and if she belonged. She didn't want Lily to spend years of her life searching for that when she herself could help her now. "We are going to find out your past." Emma clicked her pen confidently.
"Really? You are going to help me? Why?"
"Because I have a feeling that you finding your memories goes much deeper and we are going to see how deep it goes."
