Gracelyn
Hearing the crack of my bedroom door creaking open, caused my eyes to flash open in alarm. There is finally a time where a loud, obnoxious, squeaky door comes into use. Sitting up, I relaxed ever so slightly as i spotted my brother standing at the door. His face holding an apologetic one.
"Hey Matt" smiling at him, he walked further into my room. Ever since i was little, he never entered my room until I gave him a sign that it was ok. He respects my privacy, and that makes him the best brother in the whole wide world. I on the other hand, always snuck into his room and stole his new sweatshirts. Who needs a boy when you have a brother to steal hoodies from.
"I really need to fix that door" chuckling ever so slightly, I patted the bed, giving him a sign to sit down. "anyway, I am about to leave for shift, should be back sometime tonight. What do you say about you and I going to the little diner we used to go to"
Smiling at him, I gave him the biggest grin I could. "Well it looks like you got yourself a brother-sister date tonight Matt." Hearing him chuckle, he kissed my forehead. Watching him shut my door as he left, I ran my fingers through my hair.
Glancing at the clock on my nightstand, I silently groaned at the time. 7 AM. Taking a deep breath, I threw the covers off my body, instantly regretting it. The cold autumn morning making it's presence known as my feet touched the cold floor.
Hearing my phone buzz on the nightstand, I reached over to grab it. Looking at the notification, my eyes widened in surprise. My reminder of the job interview. Jumping out of bed, I basically leaped into the closet, my heart rate starting to race at the idea of not having anything appropriate to wear, or that I wasn't going to have enough time to get ready.
Sliding on the black dress pants that I could find that didn't need to be ironed, I scavenged my closet for a top. I was supposed to look business casual, but what is business casual at a freaking police station. I don't know what detectives wear. Spotting the gray turtleneck top, I threw it on, tucking it into the front part of my dress pants. Grabbing a simple black blazer to finish the look of "business", I took the pair of black flats chilling on my closet floor and exited the closet.
Quickly combing through my hair so it was knotted, I placed it into a neat pony tail. Applying a limited amount of make up, not really caring or have the time to do a full thing, I looked in the full body mirror. Seeing my reflection look presentable, I smiled. Glancing at the clock and seeing 7:10, I took a breath. Record time.
Taking the car keys off my dresser, and phone off my nightstand, I left the room, snatching my purse on the way out. Leaving the apartment, and locking the door behind me, I started my adventure towards the 21st precinct.
My brother Matt and I have always been close, inseparable really. He was my rock all through out high school. He helped me with my homework, let me cry on his shoulder after a boy broke my heart. He kept me sane.
Arriving at the precinct, I took a deep breath. To say I was nervous was an understatement. Several years ago Hank Voight and my brother weren't on the best of terms. If anything they hated each other, wanting to destroy the other. So standing here, about to be interviewed by Voight was kinda scary. Considering he holds my job in his hands.
Stepping out of the car, and up the stairs, I made myself look as confident as possible. Yet at the same time not look to cocky or air-headed. I wanted to make a good first impression, and that starts with one Sergeant Trudy Platt. I've met her plenty of times, especially when Matt had to go undercover got Hank. I would sit in the station, absolutely terrified that my brother wouldn't be ok.
Platt actually helped me become a cop. The amount of hours I sat there, she went over the rules and guidelines. Even brought her academy book, taught me everything.
Entering the threshold of the 21st, my eyes made direct contact with Trudy's. The pen she was holding dropped, a small smile taking over her features. "If it isn't my favorite Casey." Stepping closer to the counter where she stand everyday, I smiled brightly at her.
"Hey Platt"
"I'm glad to see you, but what brought your smiling face in here" chuckling softly, I looked at her.
"I have an interview with Voight" and I swear I have never seen her smile so brightly.
"Well lets get you up those stairs. We don't want you to be late" following her footsteps to the gated door, we walked up the stairs together. Just like old times.
Before we made it to the top she stopped me. "It's good to see you kid. Good luck" giving her an appreciative smile, I continued up the stairs alone. This was the moment my life changed.
Author Note
Hey guys!!!! So as you can tell this book got a whole new make over and edit. It was time, seeing as I was cringing while reading it.
I also have decided to change who Gracelyn (formerly known as Elise) falls in love with and that gets to be one Adam Ruzek. Don't get me wrong I love Will Halstead but I wanted to change things up.
I hope you like the new update, I feel better about myself now that I updated it. More updates will come in the next few days.
I will also be adding pictures at the end of every chapter if it calls for one.
