Gracelyn

Slowly walking about the precinct stairs, limped over to Platt. So technically I was supposed to be careful and try not to walk around to much. The contusion on my leg was very sensitive, and well caused some issues with moving around.

Spotting my hobbling figure, the desk sergeant raised her eyebrow at me. "Aren't you supposed to be at home, limiting movement"

Smiling at her innocently I shrugged. "Well one I'm stubborn. Two I was going to go crazy."

Rolling her eyes at me, she sighed. "Well I'm calling your boy down here to carry your butt up. I saw how difficult it looked to walk up those stairs"

I was about to argue with the woman, but with one look I silenced myself. She was very intimidating and you try not to fight with her. Once Adam hears word of me jailbreaking the apartment, I'm not going to hear the end of it. Burying my head in my arms, I groaned. "I'm not going to hear the end of this"

Chuckling softly, the rapid footsteps and the metal door opening, caused me to bite my lip. Lifting my head, I turned towards my boyfriend. With a raised eyebrow, and arms crossed he came closer to where I was. "Snowflake"

"Polar Bear". The two of us bickered with our eyes, but I finally sighed softly. "I couldn't be there anymore. I had to leave Adam".

Understanding my reasoning he nodded. Picking me up softly, he thanked Platt for calling him down. Looking over at the older woman, she just smirked at me. Carrying me up the stairs, I was gently placed in my desk chair. "Let's try not to jailbreak again."

Playfully smacking his arm, I smiled at my colleagues. All surprised to see me. "I see she she couldn't stay away for long". Shooting them a smirk, I turned in my chair to look at the crime board.

Scanning the information, I tried to piece everything together. With an arm wrapping around my neck, I smiled at the kiss planted on my cheek. "Hello mom". Grinning at the boy, I held his hands.

"Hello kiddo". Leaning into my chair, I listened in on what the others had on the case. I may not be allowed on the field but I can help man the desk. Passing me some of the case files, I flicked through them, retaining all the information I could.

Flicking towards the timelines, phone pings, I turned towards the computer to look at the neighborhood. Moving around the streets, I tried to pinpoint exact locations where the victim visited the day of his death. Writing down the places, I handed the sticky note to Trey, who brought it over to Jay.

Watching the interaction, Jay smiled at the boy putting an arm over his shoulder. The former ranger might not want to admit it but he cares about the teenager, the way he interacts with him is honestly amazing. He may be my son, but I could see Trey looks up to the soldier, and Jay was starting to take the teen under his wing. Something I was completely ok with.

Both boys looked towards me, wanting permission for them to go. Sending a small smile, I motioned for Jay to come over. "If you think something is off, I need you to get Trey to safety. I'm trusting you with him". Sending me a reassuring look, I handed him my vest that was in my desk drawer. Watching their figures leave the room, Adam looked towards me.

"Jay might try to steal our kid"

Chuckling softly, I turned towards my computer. "Trey idolizes him, and Halstead won't admit it but he put Trey under his wing. Our boy will be safe with him". As my other half approached me, Kim and Hailey walked through the door.

"I have never seen Jay be so protective.". Tilting our heads at the girls, Adam and I became slightly bewildered. Noticing the confusion written on our faces, they elaborated. "Before they left, we heard Halstead giving Trey some rules and what to do if something went wrong. ". Smiling softly at the thought, I went back to work as Adam placed a kiss on my cheek.

A small ping came from my phone, causing me to glance at it. As I did the walkies started going off on our desk, Jay's voice ringing through. As everyone started to gear up and head out, Voight waltzed through, his eyes on mine. "Let's go, you're driving".

Not showing any sort of hesitation, I jogged down the stairs keys in hand. Hopping into the driver seat of the SUV, Adam got into the passenger seat. Pulling out of the garage the Intelligence car squad sped down the street, sirens blaring. Eventually separating to block the area, I glanced at Adam. "You probably aren't going to like what I am about to do"

To say my boyfriend looked confused would be an understatement. Quickly turning my wheel, I drifted around the corner before slamming on the gas pedal, flying down the street. Spotting Jay's truck, I stopped the car enough for Adam to get out, reeving the engine I watched Trey's head pop up from Jay's truck.

Practically leaping from the truck and into the SUV, gunshots started ringing through the air. "Keep your head down Trey". Not second guessing anything I whipped the car around, speeding down the streets, following Intelligence's calls through the walkie. Catching glimpse of who were looking for, I drifted the car into the alleyway blocking his way.

Reeving the engine, Trey's head popped up from the backseat, wanting to see what was going on. Staring at the now suspect, he tried to slide by the car but whipping the door out, he smacked into it. At that point, Jay and Kevin came running down the alleyway. Turning towards the boy behind me, he was wearing this big smile. "That was cool"

Chuckling softly, I rolled down my window when Jay came over. Leaning on the car he sent me a look. "Well, am I banned from taking him out with me"

Tapping his arm reassuringly, I shook my head. "Nope, he is still your right hand man". I could see the anxiety and relief washing over him. Glancing at the boy in the backseat, the two shared a fist bump. Who would have thought, a former ranger and a teen would be best friends.

Although I still held slight fear in driving, my leg may be hurting, I wouldn't change anything. It was my job to help take down people, to put the bad people away. Only my instinct to protect my son became a priority as well.
