maeve;
"okay i think i got the address!" cameron suddenly yells, making me jump up and hit my head on the car ceiling.
"oops.. sorry." cameron nervously chuckles when he looks at me.
"thats... great! okay let's go." i say, rubbing my aching head.
cameron begins driving once again, staying focused on the road.
"so..." i start.
why am i even trying to start a conversation?
we should be focusing on the task at hand.
"yes?" cameron asks.
"nevermind." i reply.
"you know that you can talk to me right?" cameron states.
"yeah, yeah. i'm just sort of anxious because of all this crap that's happening." i reply truthfully.
i see him nod from the corner of my eyes, before he resumes his focus.
20 minutes later, cameron suddenly stops at the gas station.
"okay, we need to get some gas. just wait for me in here." he says, before heading out the door.
just great.
i impatiently wait in the car while he fills up the gas.
"fûck!" i hear someone shout from outside.
i see a guy in a black hoodie running out of the gas station store.
what's going on now?
i look to cameron's panicking face.
he looks just as confused as i am.cameron stops filling the gas, pays quickly, and rushes back into the driver's seat.
"what the hell is going on?" he asks me.
"hmm.. maybe you should ask someone who knows." i roll my eyes.
cameron just sighs and begins driving out of the gas station.
maybe i'm being a little too harsh?
"stop the car! help me!" the same black hoodie guy waves his arms as he runs in front of the car.
cameron almost runs him over before suddenly hitting the brakes.
i jerk forward and nearly hit my head on the car again.
"you must help me! they're after me!" the guy frantically screams, still in front of our car.
i roll the window down.
"who's after you?!" i yell back.
"bad, bad people! they'll kill me! please help me!" he yells back, coming towards the window.
i quickly roll up my windows, not trusting this guy.
"cameron, what do i do? call the police?!" i ask urgently, looking back at his shocked expression.
"uh-um.. sure!" he replies quickly.
"gosh dammit." i say under my breath, before dialing 911.
"no! stop! no police! please! i beg of you!" i hear the guy scream from outside the window.
since the guy is to the side, cameron takes this as an advantage and speeds off.
i look back at the guy, seeing his helpless, angry face before turning back around.
"i have no idea what the hell he was talking about.." i murmur, still in shock.
"let's forget this happened, yeah?" cameron suggests, fear still evidently laced in his voice.
"i'll try to." i say quietly.
yet, i knew that it wouldn't be easy.
because something about that guy gave me a bad feeling.
his frantic screams for help, his desperate cries for no police involvement, and his expressions of fear, anger, sadness, and panic.
something just didn't seem right.
and i had this gut feeling...
that i'd be seeing him again.
