I laid in bed with the covers over my head as I silently cried to myself. This day never gets easy for me not even 17 years later. I cant believe today would have been Stephanie's 35th birthday and our 17th wedding anniversary. The sound of Harley walking into my room knocked me out of my thoughts. I sat up and ran my hands down my face wiping away my tears.
"Are you okay?" Harley asked sitting on the edge of my bed
"Not really but I'll manage." I mumbled rubbing my beard
"What's wrong Lucas." She asked pushing hair out of her face
"Today would have been my 17th wedding anniversary and my fiancée's 35th birthday." I said blinking my tears away
"I'm so sorry." Harley whispered swinging her eat
"It's okay but what do you want for breakfast." I said her
"I actually came in here to ask you the same question." She said slightly laughing
"How about we both go down stairs and make breakfast together." I said standing up from my bed

I laughed at Harley as she danced around the kitchen mixing the blue berry muffin mix. She reminds me so much of Stephanie. It's somewhat heart breaking. In a way I see Harley as a blessing because I went so many years without company or loving another person that my decision to adopt Harley has helped me a lot. Like I would normally spend this day either locked in my office pushing myself to do work over loads or at a bar drinking until I have to take an uber home.
