Chapter 16

I was tempted to find an apartment for just me and live there with only Skittles. I was sick and tired of how awkward and silent it was in the apartment. They still weren't over it and it was pissing me off.

Yeah, it was shocking that Isadora and Seb kissed, but they both regretted it and they were both sorry. Even they were still letting it affect them and I hated it.

Seriously. How come I was the only one to be over it? I was the one who always had self doubt. I was the one who would freak out if my girlfriend decided to kiss someone else, especially my brother, I would doubt that she really loved me. But I didn't. I knew she loved me, so I got over it.

I couldn't say the same for everyone else.

Seb told me it was dinner, so I got off of my bed and put my laptop down before heading into the dining room. Isadora and Artemis were already at the table, both on their phones as if they were trying to avoid any conversation, which they probably were.

I got the bowl of pasta and I fork before I started heading to my bedroom. "Where are you going?" Seb asked.

"Oh, in my bedroom," I said. "I don't want to be caught up in all the awkwardness, so I will be enjoying my dinner in my bedroom with my beloved dog."

"Dax...." Seb said with a sigh.

"No," I said. "I'm tried of being part of whatever the hell is going on. I'm over it, but nobody else has made the effort, and Artemis and I found out almost two weeks ago."

"It's harder than you think," Artemis said, turning in her seat to face me. "My husband kissed someone else. Not only that, but it was the second time I was cheated on."

"Yeah? And you kissing me was the second time Seb was cheated on," I said. "And you cheating was a lot worse than Seb."

"How?" Artemis said. "We weren't married at the time."

"Do you want me to go into the details of us kissing?" I asked. "Because I'm pretty sure it lasted longer than ten seconds."

"Are you trying to make us feel worse?" Seb asked.

"No," I said. "I'm trying to get you three to get over it. But I guess not, so in the meantime, I will be eating this wonderful bowl of pasta and...." I looked in the bowl before sighing. "Seb? Did you put garlic in here?"

       "Yeah," Seb said. "Why?"

I was tempted to throw the pasta at him.

"Oh, nothing," I said, placing the bowl on the counter. "I'm going to go out for dinner where I can order something that, I don't know, has something that I'm allergic to."

Seb sighed. "Dax, I'm sorry. I was just distracted with everything, and...."

"Save it," I said. "I will be taking my only friend right now to that cafe that allows dogs inside."

"Dax, I quickly make something else for you," Seb said.

I ignored Seb and went to my bedroom to grab my wallet, then I told Skittles were going for a walk so he quickly ran to the door. I grabbed my phone off of the nightstand, then went to the front door and put on Skittles's leash.

Even though Seb tried getting me to stay, I still ignored him and left the apartment with Skittles. There was a cafe nearby that not only allowed dogs, but even had things on the menu for them, so I had been there a few times.

Skittles and I went there, then went to the counter to order and pay for my dinner and a snack for Skittles. They gave me a number and I sat down at a table, placing my number on the table.

It wasn't long before the order came. I gave the number back to them and gave Skittles his snack before I began eating my burger. This was way better than eating pasta with garlic and getting an allergic reaction because my brother wasn't paying attention. Him putting garlic in meals already happened after he and Artemis had their daughter. I didn't need it happening again.

When Skittles finished his snack, he nudged my leg with his nose, whining softly. He always did that when he was worried about me. I took a final bite out of my burger before gently rubbing his head. "I'm okay," I told him softly.

I then stood up, and he went back on all fours before we left the cafe. I decided for us to walk around for a bit before heading back to the torturous chamber of awkwardness.

We went to a park and walked around for a bit. Skittles would constantly walked beside me and nudged my leg, but I would assure him that I was okay.

When we walked around the whole park, we started heading back to the apartment, even though I would rather stay out longer. I really didn't want to go back there right now.

My cell phone buzzed in my pocket, so I told Skittles to sit and he did. I pulled my phone out of my pocket, reading the message from Isadora.

Okay, so maybe the last message was a bit harsh, but I didn't really care

Okay, so maybe the last message was a bit harsh, but I didn't really care. I was just in a bad mood.

Skittles and I continued our way back to the apartment, but he spotted a squirrel and even though he didn't normally chase them, he quickly ran forward, causing me to lose my grip on the leash.

And at that moment, I heard a car screeching, followed by a thud.
