"you're not serious," maya laughed, reaching over the table and sticking her chopsticks in the pile of noodles that was sitting in the container lucas was holding.
"i'm completely serious," he chuckled in between bites of sweet and sour chicken.
"that's awesome," she smiled, washing down her take-out with a drink from her can of Sprite.
"so," lucas sighed, setting his box down and turning to face her. "you know my embarrassing childhood story, now what's yours?"
"what's mine?" she questioned, almost choking on her soda in surprise.
"yeah, is that a problem? i don't mean to be pushy or make you uncomfortable or anything," lucas apologized, his cheeks flushing a deep shade of red.
"no, it's fine," maya reassuringly smiled, trying to ease his nerves, "i just.. i don't really talk about my past all that much."
"well, i would love to hear about it," he grinned, his nervousness seeming to have disappeared. "that is, if you're comfortable sharing."
"of course," maya told him, setting her food and drink down and sitting criss cross-on the love seat, placing her hands in her lap.
"well, this wasn't exactly the funniest moments, but it was definitely one of my favorites," maya started to explain, and lucas nodded for her to continue. "there was this thunderstorm, you see. i was five, and i thought- the lightning was so bright that i thought the world was on fire. i'm under my covers crying, and my mom comes flying into the room and peeks under the covers decides to make it a game. we were in alaska, looking for gold, and she said the lightning was the northern lights. the aurora borealis. she made that entire night an adventure until the storm passed, and when i woke up the next morning, it was a sunny day."
lucas watched maya with admiration, adoring the way her eyes lit up as she told the story, as if she was reliving that moment as she spoke. her face was covered in a wide smile in memory of the moment, making him unconsciously grin.
she really did have a beautiful smile.
"that's cute," lucas told her, "almost as cute as you."
a blush grew upon maya's cheeks, and she shielded her face with her hands.
"stop being so cheesy," she laughed, though she really didn't want him to stop.
"but cheesiness is my specialty, babe," he winked, and maya rolled her eyes.
however, she couldn't stop her heart from racing at his nickname for her.
"whatever," she smiled, turning her attention to her food and pushing the chopsticks around in it. she tried to avoid lucas's gaze, but she couldn't help herself from looking up and letting his eyes meet hers. lucas stared in her eyes in fascination, noticing the electric color and how bright they were.
maya broke eye contact after a few seconds of silence, and looked down at her feet, clearing her throat.
"i, uh- i should probably get going," the blonde mumbled, fiddling with her car keys before standing from the comfy chair and stretching.
"y-yeah," lucas coughed out, standing from his seat on the couch and wiping his sweaty palms on his jeans before leading her to the door. she grabbed her coat off of the coat rack and pulled it over her arms, shoving her phone in the pocket before turning to face lucas.
"this was fun," she smiled, and he returned the favor.
"it was. maybe we can meet up again sometime soon," lucas told her, hoping for a positive reaction.
"for sure."
they both stood awkwardly in the doorway, and maya couldn't help but break the long silence.
"well, i'll text you later, i guess," she joked.
"back at you," he smiled, opening the door and letting her step through.
"bye, lucas," the blonde murmured, trying to hold back her emotions.
"bye, maya," he lightly smiled, and he closed the door as she began walking away.
she thought of all of the fun times that they had shared in the short hours they were together, how she had laughed liked she never had before.
he made her happy, and she could tell he felt the same way about her.
she thought of his smile, his laugh, his smooth voice, his muscles, his jawline.
god, his jawline.
"ah, fuck it," maya mumbled, stopping in her tracks and jogging over to lucas's door. she knocked loudly before pulling her hand back and waiting for the nearing footsteps to reach the door.
and then, as soon as the door opened, maya did something totally unexpected, something that neither her nor lucas could have predicted.
she grabbed a fistful of his shirt and pulled him towards her before letting their lips collide.
(totally didn't plan on making them kiss this chapter but i mean i don't think any of you guys are gonna complain so oh well)
