"lucas, my man," zay grabbed lucas's hand and pulled him into a quick bro hug, "how are you?

"actually," lucas started, and there was an awkward pause of silence before he continued speaking, "i'm kind of bus-"

zay interrupted lucas by inviting himself into the house, but almost immediately froze when he saw maya standing with her back against the wall of the living room, still breathing quite heavily.

"and who might this pretty little lady be?" zay asked, a small smirk already beginning to grow on his face when he noticed the small spot on maya's neck that was red and already beginning to bruise.

"i'm maya," she told him, her cheeks turning a deep shade of pink when she realized that this 'zay' guy had caught on to what her and lucas had been doing only moments ago.

there was an awkward silence as they all stood in the living room, and zay was the first to break it.

"well, i was going to ask if you wanted to hang out, but now that i see how.. busy.. you are, i guess i'll just go," he smirked at lucas, starting to head towards the door.

lucas escorted him to the doorway, and right before zay stepped out of the house, he turned and gave lucas a pat on the back.

"i don't know how you managed to score that one, but nice job," he complimented his best friend.

"we're just friends," lucas tried to tell him, but zay wasn't having it.

"sure you are. why don't you go tell that to the hickey on her neck," zay smirked before exiting the house and shutting the door behind him.

lucas walked back into the house, awkwardly making his way over to maya, who had taken a seat on his couch. she was typing something on her phone, but when she noticed lucas's presence, she turned it off and stood up from the couch.

"i should probably get going," she told him, awkwardly shifting on the heels of her feet.

"do you have to?" lucas blurted before his brain had a chance to process the words.

"yeah, i do," she sighed, glancing down at her twiddling fingers (sab where u at) before adding, "bradley is outside waiting for me."

lucas's smile faltered, but it didn't completely drop. bradley was her boyfriend, and if it wasn't for him, he might not have ever had the courage to meet maya. he had no reason to be jealous, him and maya were just friends, and that's all they would ever be.

"oh, okay," he sighed, and maya couldn't help but notice his change in mood. she walked over to him and wrapped her arms around him, hugging his body to hers tightly.

"i'm glad i got to meet you," the blonde mumbled into lucas's chest as he wrapped his arms around her and gave her a gentle squeeze before releasing.

"me too," he lightly smiled down at her as they pulled away from each other.

"goodbye, lucas," maya looked him in the eyes as she spoke, saddened that they were already being separated.

"goodbye, maya," lucas sadly smiled, watching as she turned and walked toward the door, grabbing her coat from the coat rack and slipping on both arms before pulling it over her body.

the blonde opened the door and took one last glance at lucas before stepping out of the house and closing the door behind her, leaving lucas alone with his thoughts.
