With itching arms and catching breath Xenopus stumbled through the streets as he blocked out his surroundings and didn't want to see the happiness all around him. It was strange, feeling so elated and miserable at the same time, even though he was used to it by now. Every time the drugs began to wear off it felt the same, but that didn't make it any easier. On the contrary. Right now, when he knew that this time it would be even more difficult than before to get his hands on supply, the miserable feeling in his chest outweighed his high.
Right now, he didn't have the money to buy new drugs, he had lost his latest job just a few hours ago because apparently, he'd been rude towards a customer, and he was far too ashamed to go crawling back to Henry and beg for his help. His best friend had already gone through so much trouble for Xenopus, he could only rely on him so much until Henry, too, would give up on him.
No, he couldn't let that happen again. Too often already had he tried and failed that way. This time he would have to overcome his problems on his own, no matter what it was going to cost him. If he didn't succeed he'd just let life take him wherever it wanted to. He didn't have anything to lose, after all.
Xenopus did his best to ignore the unwell feeling in his stomach as he tore his gaze away from the the rainbow again. He couldn't seem to keep his eyes off it despite the fact that the mockingly bright colours only served to take him off his high faster. But maybe that wasn't too bad since he had to figure out a way how to survive the next few days.
