Marta awoke
At the birth of the day,
She knew it was time
That they both made their way.
She went to the Baas
To say they were leaving,
He sneeringly smiled,
"You won't find me grieving"
She begged him for money,
To help them along,
He point blank refused,
Which was brutally wrong.
She collected young Nally
And grasped her young hand,
With no backward glance,
She departed his land.
Though she had nothing,
And no place to go,
She felt they were free now,
Her heart was aglow.
