I knew she was there. She had to be. Emmarie's number one hideout was the rose garden. I refused to think she could be anywhere else.

Restless and angered, I grabbed my father's army coat, leaving without saying a word.

Why was I doing this?

She said she loved me.

But I don't love her.

And I don't think she really loves me.

How can I?

How can she?

How could Edward think he wasn't loved?

Because he was.

But what about Emmarie?

The girl with the hair that nobody knows?

The girl who hides behind disguises.

She hides behind masks, forgetting that the past is the past.

Time runs by her and I and sometimes I forget to breathe.

Because maybe I need her more than I think.

Edward's gone.

My dad's away and because of our family, he wants to stay as far away from us.

What is happening?

I tear open the car's door, throwing my phone into the drink holder.

Who were you before you realized that love's not always your friend.

I press my foot on the gas pedal, racing down the midnight silent street.

The lamp lights sent shadows across my dashboard, but as I fell further away from the city, the shadows became demons.

The engine made noises as I took a turn onto a gravel road.

Love?

Love?

Who loves me?

How can I be fooled by Hayden?

How can he be fooled by my brother?

Who loves anyone anymore?

She loves me.

He loved me.

Yet they say love is nonexistent.

But then why does Emmarie break through my mind.

All the times I had screamed and shouted at her.

Her green eyes imprinted in my brain as she confessed her feelings.

The one's I denied.

The road was dark, the curves shooting out.

Who were you before you were defined?

Who were you before you realized time is not on your side?

Who were you before the world told you who you should be.

Who were you before you said 10 lies?

My phone buzzed.

Startled, I reached over, one hand firmly on the steering wheel.

Emmarie's name was surrounded in smiley and heart emojis, but it was her name that made me stop breathing.
