We return to our large den in the forest. Once inside, we all settle down on out own little spot we sleep on. I had gathered some leaves on the way back to the den to make one for Syd. Chase waddles into the den after Jack. He staggers and then falls. He looks sick. And I remember: the bite from Kyle. Syd looks worried.
¨Oh no¨ She gasps. ¨Kyle's bite is deadly.¨ I can feel my eyes warm with the arival of tears. I look into Chases eyes, which are now lolling into his head. He tries to get up, put he's paralysed. And he becomes still, his heartbeat ceases, and he's gone. I gasp and reach for whoever was closest. I bury my face in their fur, and I can feel Syd at my side.
I stare at Chase, my tears still falling like rain.
