My ears pinned back. I ran full speed towards a wall and slammed my face a couple times. I bit and scratched myself for a while.

No. The pain was real.

This wasn't a dream.

I howled in despair, digging my face into my paws.

Landon smirked at me.

I tried to shrug my shoulders, but wolves can't do that.

"Why me, right?" I asked.

"What?" he asked.

"I said, why me, right?" I said louder.

"They can't understand you," Scott explained. "But me and Maddie can. We'll translate for you."

I nodded in approvement.

I sat down and looked at Scott. "Why me?" I howled miserably. "Why, Scott, why?"

"It's all going to be all right." he assured. "You'll be fine."

"Okay," Maddie said, walking towards us. "I just told the Royal Lupans that she's turned. They say that Lupa wants to see you and The White Wolf tomorrow at noon."

"Already?" Scott asked, sounding like a little kid leaving the bouncy house.

"Well, Bergamo said that when the descendent turns, Lycaon will awaken. This is a meeting of war. But she also said that Sara can bring two friends."

Looking at me she said, "Take your pick."

"Landon and-" I tried to get out.

"Not so fast!" a familiar, rich-spoiled-brat voice yelled out.

Everyone groaned.

Richard Birchin, the richest kid in the entire school stepped forward. "You should be taking me instead of that-mutt!" he said, nudging towards Landon.

"This is her decision, Richard, not yours." Scott protested.

"She is but a mere Omega," Richard shot at everybody. "And so is her friend. She should take a strong, brave, purebred Beta and not a stupid, pathetic mutt like him!"

"Yes, but now she has inherited Bergamo's status as Senior Beta," Maddie said. "So now you're below her in rank."

Richard's cheap smile fell.

"Can I finish my choice, please?" I asked.

"Yes," Scott replied. "My apologies."

"I choose Landon and Marco." I answered.

Marco was a quiet, lonely, misunderstood Omega who always sat in the chair farthest away from anyone, everywhere. I thought he just needed a little help, and a friend.

"Landon," Scott announced. "Marco."

The two stood in front of Scott.

"You have been chosen to be together with Sara Marcello in her fighting of Lycaon and his minions. You must take an oath of allegiance to go farther in this journey."

"Do you swear to be loyal and truthful to the Lupan wolves during this battle?"

"We swear."

"To be courageous and fight for the justice of the White Wolf? To protect each other and be together until the very end?"

"We swear."

"You're in," Scott announced, and the class applauded. "We'll leave on the first plane to Italy tomorrow, so after school, get packing!"
