This is a repost. I published this story in 2016 and I started writing it after 2016 Ramadan, right after Sallah. The idea just came to me out of the blue; Halima, why don't you write a book that revolves around a Muslim character? You've been seeing loads of stories like this onWattpad and it'll be a good tribute to Islam, don't you think?
But I didn't want to make a basic story that features the 'perfect' Muslim girl, because, let's face it, in this current time, Muslimahs are a bit crazy.
It's awful but it's true. When it comes to religion, I'm not perfect. And I'm pretty sure most people reading this—Muslim, Christian, etc—are not exactly perfect either.
Anyhow, I wanted to make a story that features a sort of strong Muslim character. Paulina Suarez is like me in a lot of ways and I'm going to miss writing in her perspective.
She's confident, she's sassy and she does her best to keep it halal. But we're all human and we all make mistakes. She isn't perfect (she isn't meant to be) but then again, who is?
I made Damon Valentine as a tribute to all the nice guys out there that are so under appreciated in Wattpad books. Who needs a bad boy? Sure they're sexy but dorky guys make the world go round. They deserve to be loved.
I want to thank you all for sticking with me through this even though I failed at addressing all the issues I wanted to address. I'm going to miss you guys a lot. I'm so sorry that I can't mention you all because I would love to. You made this story exist with your awesome comments and your general support. You're the best and I hope you never have the reason to forget this fact.
