Cole could hardly contain his excitement as they arrived at the tower. As soon as the taxi stopped, Cole was out of the car and was already inside by the time that Remi had finished paying the driver.
Remi headed inside to see him waiting in front of the ticket booth. She rolled her eyes when he looked back to send her a pleading look, pushing past him to pay for their tickets.
"Go on ahead." Remi waved him on. She had already been in the Eiffel Tower too many times to count; it had lost its luster. Cole frowned hesitantly and when she rolled her eyes and gestured for him to go, his face lit up as he rushed ahead towards a tour guide.
Remi strayed behind them as the guide showed him around the museum part of the first floor, explaining the history of the Tower and Cole soaked up all of the information with eager ears, listening attentively.
Remi almost let out a loud laugh when he actually took out pen and paper -from where Remi really didn't know- and started taking notes. Even the tour guide sent him an amused look but didn't comment, continuing on with his explanation of how the tower was built.
As they walked towards the glass elevator leading to the second floor, Remi felt a vibration in her pocket. Frowning, she pulled out her phone, thinking it was Gulliana- Was there a problem at her apartment?- and pressed 'answer' without checking the caller ID.
"Hello?"
The familiarity of the voice itself made Remi's tense, her grip so tight on the phone that she could hear tiny cracking noises.
Cole and the tour guide, Jason, sent her curious looks, not noticing her change in demeanor. She waved them on, the same pleasant smile as before pasted onto her face and when Cole raised an eyebrow questioningly, she held up one finger signaling that she'd be up in a moment. Reassured that Remi would be alright, he got onto the elevator with Jason, the doors closing behind them.
"Hello?" The voice repeated, this time sounding confused. "Remi?"
Remi let her facade drop, fury rushing through her. Never one to show weakness, she kept her voice as controlled as possible. "What are you doing calling me Bryant?" She asked calmly.
Remi could hear the smug smile in his voice as he spoke. "Ah, it is you! How's everything been?" He asked pleasantly.
His casualty made Remi want to punch something but she again, stayed calm, clenching and un-clenching the hand not holding the phone. "Listen, I'm really busy so if that's all-"
He cut her off. "Oh really? What's the infamously retired Remi Lux doing with her life?" He asked snidely.
"Things that are way more fulfilling than talking to you." Remi deadpanned, not in the mood for his bullshit -not that she ever was. "Goodbye." She hung up before he could say anything else, making a note to herself to block his number later.
Not giving herself a chance to think about what had just happened, Remi pasted on a smile before heading up the elevator to catch up with Cole and Jason. She found them in the souvenir shop looking at key chains.
She sneaked up behind Cole, wrapping her arms around his waist, making him jump and let out a small yelp. She sniggered to herself and took a step back to let him turn around.
He sighed, mock scowling when he saw that it was her -as if it would be anyone else- before smiling good naturedly. "Oh hey, what was that call about? You looked upset." He asked and she waited until he turned back around to the key chains to frown.
Apparently Remi hadn't been as good at hiding her emotions as she thought. "I did?" She asked, avoiding the question.
He nodded, noticing her lack of answer but didn't press on it. Instead, he held up two key chains for him and her.
"I'm buying you one." He announced, not willing to take no for an answer. He wanted to pay her back somehow for the day away from his troubled life. And plus, it was embarrassingly, the only thing he could afford to buy in the shop -he had found his wallet whilst cleaning up Remi's apartment but it only had a measly $5 in it.
Remi nodded, not having the heart to tell him that she never really had a need for key chains, let alone keys. She always lost her keys somewhere and her doors were always unlocked -she didn't really care if anyone stole anything, she could easily replace whatever was missing- so buying herself a key chain would be pointless.
But it was kind of cute -in an adorable way- that he wanted to buy them matching 'He loves Paris/She loves Paris' key chains so she relented, walking with him to the cash register.
Remi thanked Jason for showing Cole around and sent him on his way after giving him a generous tip and once Cole was done paying and had gifted Remi -quite proudly in fact- with a brand new key chain, they were on their way.
"Where to next kiddo?" She asked, swinging her arms cheerfully as she walked.
Cole’s eyebrows furrowed, a small frown forming on his face. "I wish you'd stop calling me that." He grumbled.
Remi raised an eyebrow. "What, kiddo?" She asked and when he nodded, she smirked. "Aww, does the poor little boy not like being called a kiddo?" She teased, pinching his cheeks for extra effect.
His frown deepened as he slapped her hand away. "I'm serious; I'm only 4 years younger than you anyway." He said defensively.
Remi sent him a sideways look to see if he was actually upset and apparently he was, because he was glaring at the ground with his hands in his pockets. She almost let out a snort but decided against it seeing it would probably make him even more upset.
"Fine," she finally said. "I won't call you kiddo anymore." She relented as he nodded appreciatively. Then she sent him a sly smile and added, "I'll just stick with little boy." Laughing when he let out a groan of indignation, she waved away his protests.
"Don't worry, don't worry, I'm just kidding." She said, chuckling to herself. "Geez, you're too easy." She wiped away a fake tear as he grumbled under his breath. "I promise I'll just call you Cole." She promised, crossing an ‘x’ over her chest.
He nodded. "Good," then with a sly smirk that rivaled hers, he added, "old lady."
Remi can honestly say that her jaw dropped in surprise, her cheeks turning slightly red in indignation, as he burst out laughing. She didn’t know she had it in him. "No!" She cried out as he literally doubled over in laughter. "You did not just call me old!"
He nodded, wiping away real tears. "Oh but I did." He countered.
She mock glared at him. "That's it, you better run little boy!"
"Hey!" He cried out defensively before registering exactly what she had said, his eyes widening as she got into a running position.
Before she knew it, he was taking off and she was chasing after him, not caring how many stares she got.
