Chapter 4
After almost getting kicked out by security guards, Remi and Cole decided to head to the top floor where the observatory was. Cole was the first one to run to the built in binocular/telescope thing, to get a better view of the city.
To Remi it wasn't really that great of a view, but Cole seemed to be in awe, unable to look up from the binoculars for a good 10 minutes.
It was almost 6 in the evening and Remi knew that they should probably get back but she couldn't find herself wanting to move from her spot. She had grown more attached than she'd like to admit to Cole over the last few hours.
He was the only person who she'd met in the past two years that didn't know anything about her and her past and she had a feeling that even if he did know, he wouldn't treat her differently. His youthful innocence was what made him so attractive in her eyes.
Yeah, she could admit it, Cole was very attractive and she found herself liking him more than she should have for someone she had just met that day. But somehow she still felt like a cougar or something. He needed to mature more for her to really like him.
Was that why she was trying to mold him?
She shook the thought from her head, instead focusing back on Cole who still hadn't moved from his position.
"I'm sure there's nothing that interesting for you to be staring at for 10 minutes straight." She spoke up, coming up beside him.
For goodness sakes, she thought, rolling her eyes, he hasn't even turned the binoculars yet.
Finally, he straightened, turning to her. "I'm just taking it in." He explained, a soft smile lighting up his face.
Remi blinked, taken aback by the rush of emotions that ran through her, making her heart skip a beat. She had never seen anyone so at peace with themselves and she felt a pang in her heart of an emotion she couldn't quite place -longing?- as she looked at him unblinkingly.
The lights of the tower that she had just noticed were on, only added to the affect by illuminating his face. His eyes seemed to glow an almost hazel shade, his brown hair seeming a few shades lighter; he glowed.
That in itself sent sadness rushing through her. He was like the epitome of light -young, innocent. He didn't need to be tainted by someone like herself.
Cole frowned; there she went again, looking upset.
There had been flashes of that same sadness showing in her eyes -always in her eyes- all throughout the day and he knew that he shouldn't ask her about it but he still wanted to. But he could already tell that she didn't like people prying into her personal life and he didn't want to mess up the almost perfect day by making her mad.
Almost perfect, he thought. What would make it perfect?
And then he just knew. And he realized a way to break the tough facade of Remi Winters. And he went in for the kill without second guessing -for the first time in his life.
Remi knew what he was going to do the second he decided it and yet she didn't stop him.
She let him take a step closer than he already was so that she could feel his body heat. She let him place his hand on her waist, the other gently cupping her cheek. She let him look directly into her eyes -they were the same height- to see what she didn't even know were reflected in them. She let him lean in ever so closely… And she let him go in for the kill.
