Chapter Six

It'd been five nights since the incident with Palo. Five whole nights since she woke up with the couch across from her empty and not so much as a thank you or goodbye.

She should've closed the door in his face. That would have been a much more fitting ending to their meeting. She'd been too kind and open with him again and as usual it left her brokenhearted.

Eva splashed water on her face as she attempted to refresh herself. It was a particularly heavy night at her job, there were plenty of new faces and visitors that'd come out to see their families for the holidays. Normally she loved nights like this. Visitors and out of towners were always more willing to tip frivolously, but as of recently she'd caught some type of stomach bug that had her tired and frustrated with life.

With a sigh she glanced into the large rectangular mirror in the bathroom. There were dark bags beneath her eyes and her black hair was pulled sloppily atop her head in a loose bun. She looked as tired as she felt.

"You can do this." She spoke to herself before putting on her infamous fake smile and exiting the restroom.

The bar/club was bustling with drunk laughter and fun.

"Oh there you are, Eva!" One of her co-workers called out to her, two trays full of food in her slender hands. She walked up to Eva with a relieved look on her face.

"These are your orders, gosh the v.i.p is packed tonight."

"Thanks Shelly." Eva responded whilst gently grabbing the trays from her.

She carried the trays to the assigned table where two handsome men were sitting. Both were adorned in business suits, much like the ones Palo would wear. She briefly wondered if they were acquaintances of his.

"Here you are gentlemen." She spoke in the sickly sweet tone she reserved for customers, "My name is Eva and I'll be the waitress taking over your table. Is there anything else I can get for you."

One of the men spoke, a soft blond with an inch of messy hair atop his head and penetrating blue eyes. He had a long pointed nose and very small pink lips. He was handsome in a boyish type of way with his heart-shaped face and soft features as well as lack of facial hair. One would think he was younger than his age if it weren't for the deepness and maturity in his eyes. He had a way of looking at you as though he could see right through the layer of flesh separating your internal being from the outside world.

"No this will be enough." His voice was soft too.

"I'll be damned, I could go for another beer." The other man countered, sliding the empty glass towards Eva. This man was much gruffer than his companion. He had long unruly brunette hair that was pulled back into a low ponytail and a thick beard that barely reached below his chin. His eyes were a dark brown that could easily be mistaken for black and when she looked into them she searched desperately for life. They were so dull and seemed to lack the emotion most people's eyes gave.

"Nick, we're here for business remember?"

"I can handle my damn beer, kid. Now get me the drink girl."

The man's demeaning dismissal of his partner's suggestion seemed to have angered him slightly, she could tell this much by the way his hands bawled themselves into fist.

"You need to be sober, I'm here to insure that everything goes according to plan."

The man let out a dark chuckle, "Really trying to look good for pops ehh? I've done this more times than the amount of years you've lived. I ain't failed before boy. Now," The man began turning his eyes to Eva who was watching their encounter with her mouth hanging open, "Get my drink before I stick something in there."
