i held her hand and kissed her softly.

and i gazed at her

and told her i loved her,

even though she couldn't hear me.

and i told her stories

and blocked out the

singing and the rumble of the crowd.

i recalled the day i asked

her to marry me;

the day i told her i loved her.

the day i realized she was my everything,

and the day i got the call about the accident.

the day i realized that our forever

was cut short.

and then, i told her goodbye,

and watched as she left me

with a new year

but no reason for one.

the doctors came in

and they pulled me aside.

they tried to bring her back- for me.

but as i glanced out at the night,

my heart hollow and aching,

i knew i had to

let her go.
