ben & summer

the coffee shop's lights were

bright and when I opened the door,

I was surprised to see other people

were there.

I recognized ellen, whom i'd

gotten to know from my many visits

and who was talking to a

very excited boy.

she gave me a wave as I passed

and I noticed the man hanging

over his coffee mug

in the back by himself.

but they all faded away,

as soon as I saw her.

she was purposely putting her head down

to avoid me,

her dark, wild curls falling in her eyes.

and even though we had fought

and I knew she was mad at me,

a large weight was lifted from my chest,

and it was replaced with an indescribable

happiness.

I crossed the shop quickly,

before reaching her and gathering her into my arms.

she pushed and hit my chest to try to get away,

but there was no way

I would let her go.

I pulled her tightly to

my chest

and closed my eyes.

as soon as I felt her and

heard her mutter, "jerk,"

before kissing my neck softly,

I knew that I would never let her get away again.

and I spent the rest of the night,

until the ball dropped,

apologizing for

anything i'd ever done.
