ben & summer

it was cold,

my breath fogging the air

in front of me.

I stood outside our apartment

building,

hearing a lone voice

sing over the screaming audience.

I took a deep breath, turning

from sided to side,

hoping she was running home

while I was planning to run to her.

I raked my hands through

my hair in agitation,

digging through the pits

of my mind

that was filled with her.

and as the streets grew louder

and the year reached its end,

I cried out into the night.

because I knew

exactly where she would be.

and so I ran,

pushing my feet to go as fast

as my heart,

all the way to the place

we first met.
