*time skip to friday night ooh wow majestic*

alex lay in his bed, comfier than laurens was but didn't dare to admit it. he was holding the back of his head in his hands, his hair streaming through his fingers. he hadn't bothered to pull the covers over him and was far too lazy to get changed so he lay there, cold and full-clothed. he didn't mind. he was smiling widely. a grin almost.

"i'm going on a date..." alex said. "with john laurens. john laurens."

he blinked at the ceiling, his smile fading. "what if he doesn't like me and is just being polite?" alex had despair in his eyes. "no, no, alexander. don't think that; he likes you, you like him and everything's fine."

a pep talk a night is what his mother always gave him for the events of the next day, but he now had to give himself one every night. his voice wasn't as sweet or calming as his mother's, but he had adjusted to it.

"john laurens." he repeated, turning over on his side and closing his eyes to go to sleep.
