The war between Asgard and Jotunhiem was like none the nine realms had ever seen. It went on for years, Thousands of asgardians and frost giants died. All because laufey, the king of the frost Giants, wanted to take the human race as slaves and freeze the earth. When Odin, the king of Asgard, intervened to stop the frost giants there was a massive war that caused chaos and destruction. The jotuns and the asgardians never had gotten along, but this war would put a permanent wedge between the two realms. During the war, odins wife, frigga, gave birth to their son Thor. they did their best to keep Thor safe and away from the war, he was a baby and they didn't want him growing up in that. What Odin didn't realize is that laufey had taken a wife during the war, and she too had given birth to a son. At least, Odin didn't realize this until the final day of the war.
The asgardians had beaten the Frost Giants, after years of bloodshed and death they had driven them back to their own realm of jotunhiem. The asgardian army had proven to be stronger than the jotuns and the Frost Giants were forced to surrender and leave earth forever. So now the war had ended, the asgardians had taken the casket of ancient winters,-the source of jotunhiem's power- and held it in the vault in Asgard to ensure the jotuns never tried to destroy a realm again. After the war had ended Odin went to the temple of the Frost Giants, making sure they left no weapon of war behind. He wasn't expecting what he found; a baby. Odin went to the temple and heard faint crying echoing off the icy walls, he then found a baby, small for a child of a Frost Giant, he'd been abandoned, left to die. an infant no more than a few days old, left on a cold rock to suffer and perish. He knelt down a picked up the crying, scared baby, by the time he stood up again the baby's skin had shifted color. it was no longer blue, he had taken the appearance of an asgardian child. He had no idea who the child belonged too, but he soon found out. He was barely holding the child for ten seconds when he heard Laufeys voice behind him.
"You destroyed my realm" he heard him say. Odin turned and faced laufey, still holding the child who was beginning to calm down. "You destroy my realm, slaughter my people, and take the source of our power. Must you also take my son?" He asked him, looking at the baby and then back at Odin. Odin realized the baby was indeed laufeys. He now was faced with a problem, this baby was innocent as of now, but he would grow up and become king, he would be raised by laufey and be taught to hate the asgardians. He would be encouraged to start a new war. He thought about his own son Thor, Thor was only two years old now, and if a war ever broke out again when his and laufeys son are adults, this baby would be trying to murder Thor. Suddenly he wanted to kill the baby. It would end a problem before it started, it would save lives before they were at risk. But he looked down at the infant and thought about the opposite side of the coin. He's an innocent child. He hasn't done anything, what he will grow up to be is merely speculation that could very well be wrong. This child could grow up and make peace between the two realms, he might make jotunhiem a great realm again. There were many things to consider and he didn't know what was the right thing to do, he considered taking him and raising him himself, but what would he do? What would he say to the realm when he comes home with the child of the frost giant king? The war is over, taking this baby would be nothing less than kidnapping. Had Odin found the baby alone and dying he would have taken him, but his father is here now, he simply doesn't have the right to take him.
"Please. After what you've done, my son and my wife are all I have left" laufey said after a long moment of silence. Odin thought for a moment before he spoke.
"Whatever has happened to you and your realm you have brought upon yourself" he said.
Then looked at the child once more before making his final decision. "But this child is yours" killing the baby would be murder, taking him would be kidnapping. He held out the infant and let laufey take him. As soon as laufey took the baby he began to whimper and cry again, his skin turned back to the blue of a jotun, and laufey seemed..... well he didn't seem to feel anything at all. He just held the baby and had a look of indifference.
No more words were said between them. Odin turned and left the temple, letting the cries of the baby fade into the background as he went back to Asgard. He thought he was making the right choice, he thought he was making the only choice, but it wouldn't be long before he was proven wrong.
Odin would soon learn that letting laufey keep his son was the biggest mistake of his life.
