Chapter 93.
Loki felt Trinity's hand grip his shoulder gently.
"Loki... I have to go" she whispered in his ear, trying not to fully wake him up. They had spent the entire night in the hidden garden, they just sat together and talked, and watched the stars while drinking wine. It was the first time they got so much time alone together and neither of them had wanted it to end. They stayed out all night, but somewhere alone the line, when they were laying down on the blanket and looking up at the sky, Loki had fallen asleep. He tried with great effort to stay awake, but like Thor said earlier that night, Loki had had a rough couple of weeks, and once he was laying down and relaxed he just couldn't keep himself awake.
Loki could barely hear Trinity's soft voice, but he could feel her breath in his ear, so  turned over And tried to open his eyes.
"What.... you have to leave? Why?" He Groaned, his voice rough from sleeping. She leaned over him, one hand on her chest and the other raking his hair out of his face.
"Yeah... I have to go. I have to get home and get some sleep myself. I have work tomorrow" she said softly, trying to get him to keep sleeping, there was no reason for him to wake up too, he needed rest, probably more than anyone. She would've just left him alone, but she didn't want him to wake up and think she just bailed on him.
"You have work tomorrow? What work?" He was still half asleep, and his tired mind forgot that she was a healer and that he was a council member; they both had a lot of responsibilities even though the war was over.
"I work in the palace remember? And I should really get some sleep before tomorrow's shift" she told him, gently kissing his lips. "And you should go back to sleep too..." she mumbled against his lips. He shook his head a bit and kissed her back.
"No.... no I'll walk you home" he mumbled, holding her waist as he sat up sleepily. He didn't want to wake up, but he wanted to walk her back to her house to make sure she got home safely. Somewhere in the back of his mind he felt doubt about their safety, like Laufey might still be able to hurt them.... somehow.
"Loki you don't need to do that, I can walk myself home" she told him, but he was already gathering the wine glasses and pillows that they'd used.
"No I want to. I want to make sure you get home Okay.... if you don't mind" he would leave her be if she needed her space, he knew what it was like when people wouldn't leave him alone, so he wanted to respect her wishes; if she needed alone time he'd leave her alone, but he also wanted to be protective. But she smiled slightly and shook her head.
"I don't mind at all" she loved him more every minute; he He stuck by her, but he was willing to back off if she asked, he didn't act like he was entitled to her time or attention. If she told him that she wanted to walk home alone she knew he wouldn't have asked why, or pressured her to let him come, he would've just kissed her goodnight and let her be alone.
She linked her arm through his as they left the garden and started walking to her home. They could hear the sound of celebrations coming from the palace, but it got progressively more quiet as they walked further away. It was pretty quiet now, and it was only about three in the morning so it was still very dark, they could only see because of the lights of the streets, but it was still very dim. Trinity yawned slightly and leaned on Loki's shoulder, holding his arm as they walked to her house.
They got to her house and walked up to the door, Loki was expecting her to say goodnight and go inside, but instead, she put her arms around his torso and kissed him again. He leaned in and kissed her back, gently placing his hand on her neck. Trinity pulled back slightly, their lips almost touching.
"Are you nervous about getting married?" She asked him with a slight smirk pulling at her lips. Loki pulled her closer to him and snaked his arms around her as he shook his head slowly.
"No... not even a little bit" this was the one thing that never felt wrong. Being with Trinity was always what he wanted, and he had no doubts about it.
Trinity grinned and raked back his hair again.
"I love you" she whispered, then pulled back a little bit so he let go of her. "Now Go home, read a book, go to sleep. You need it and you've earned it" she told him as she quickly traced the scar on his stomach before pulling back away from him.
Loki smirked a bit and nodded.
"Good night. Thank you for what you did tonight. I know I feel asleep, but it was perfect, I loved every minute" Loki said as he stepped off her porch. Trinity just smiled warmly at him and opened her door and went inside. Loki wasn't sure what it was about her smile, but every time she smiled like that, he just wanted to grab her and kiss her again. Unfortunately she had already gone back inside, so he had to walk back to the palace with her keeping his mind captive.
He got back to the palace and snuck back into the big group of people.
Now that he wasn't with Trinity, and really had no reason to keep himself awake, he felt like he was going to fall asleep again.
"Loki, where have you been? We were looking for you" Loki heard Fandral ask from behind him, and before he could escape, he felt Fandral's hand come down on his shoulder. Loki turned around.
"Yeah, I was with Trinity, we just wanted some space." Loki said, visibly tired.
"You look like you're dying, have a drink" Fandral laughed as he pushed a mug of some kind of alcohol into Loki's hand.
"I don't think that's a good idea-" Fandral didn't let him finish.
"Loki relax, unwind. Come with me" he said as he shoved him forward toward the lounge. Thor, Sif, and the rest of the warriors three were sitting around laughing and talking over drinks. Loki really just wanted to go to bed (and not get drunk on whatever Fandral gave him), but he didn't think he'd be able to leave now without getting attention, so he just sat in a chair and sat back to relax.
As soon as loki got settled, he fell asleep again. Everyone else was talking and didn't notice, but Thor eventually turned to Loki to talk about the engagement, but he saw that Loki was passed out in his chair.
"Loki, come on" Thor said as he shook Lokis shoulder. Loki sat up half asleep and Thor pulled him to his feet.
"I'm fine....." Loki mumbled slightly inaudibly.
"Yeah, you're fine" Thor just pushed Loki out of the room and brought him to his room. Loki was half awake and half asleep, so he was able to walk, but he didn't really know what was going on so he just went wherever Thor led him.
Thor got Loki to his room and dropped him in bed.
"Go to sleep" he said as he covered Loki with a blanket, flicked off the light, and left the room.
