*next day*

Vic's POV:

I drive towards my parent's place. I need to tell my mother that Sam's okay. She'd be so worried about her. I pull into the driveway and walk up to the front door, knocking on it. My mother opens the door. Surprise washing over her face.
"Vic!" she exclaims, pulling me into a hug.
"Hey mama, Sam's safe," I say to her as she releases me. She nods.
"I know," she says. I'm confused.
"How did you know? Did Mike call you?" I ask her and she shakes her head.
"No," she says and I'm confused for a split second before the realization washes down on me.
"She's here isn't she?" I say as I try push past my mother who is trying to keep me out.
"Vic, now isn't a good time," she says sternly and I ignore her, walking past her into the lounge. I lock eyes with Sam's which are full of fear.
"Sam," I say gently. Her eyes fill with tears and she stands up, backing away from me.
"No Vic, I can't. I can't do this right now," she says, tears spilling from her eyes. My heart aches seeing her like this.
"Sam please," I beg her.
"Vic I can't," she says, bringing her hand up to her cheek which is all bruised purple. I slowly walk towards her and she turns, walking into the spare bedroom and closing the door, locking it. I walk slowly over to it and place my hand on the door. I can hear Sam crying on the other side and it kills me knowing that I caused it.
"Sam," I croak.
"Go away," she says through the tears. I sink down to the floor, my hand still on the door.
"Sam please, everybody's worried about you. I'm worried about you."
"I'm.. I just.." she stutters before breaking into sobs.
"She sits up high, surrounded by the sun. One million branches and she loves every one," I softly sing through the door, in the hopes that Sam will calm down enough to open it.

Sam's POV:

Vic is here. He knows where I am.
I'm scared. Not of him but of what he could do to me. Even though I know that Vic would never hurt me intentionally, the fear is still there.
"She sits up high, surrounded by the sun. One million branches and she loves every one," I hear Vic's voice through the door. I lean my head back on it and pull my knees up to my chest. I stop crying enough to listen to Vic singing. He sings some more and I know what he's doing. Trying to lure me out. I turn around and place my hand on the door.
"Vic," I say gently. He stops singing and I sigh.
"Trust me," he says and my heart pounds.
"Vic, I.."
"Sam. Trust me," he says more gently and I bite my lip before hesitantly unlocking the door and opening it.

Vic's POV:

Sam opens the door and I look at her. Her brown eyes full of tears.
"Oh Sam, c'mere," I say, opening my arms. She crawls towards me and falls into my lap. I slowly wrap my arms around her. She's stiff with fear for a moment but she eventually relaxes a little bit, tears streaming down her face. She sobs hard into me and I gently rub her back.
"Vic..." she starts but I cut her off.
"I'm not going to hurt you," I whisper to her. She cries harder. I softly start singing Hold On Till May to her. She starts to calm down, tears running down her face as she mouthes the words with me. There's a quiet moment after I finish singing where she calms down completely.
"Then why did Tony?" she asks me, pulling away slightly and looking at me through sad eyes.
"Sam, he wasn't himself. He didn't even know it was you until afterwards," I say and she sniffles a little. "He's so upset about it. When you left, his heart broke. I've never seen Tony more upset about anything," I say softly to her and fresh tears stream down her face.
"I want to go home," she sobs into me and I hug her tight. "But I'm so scared Vic," she says and I nod.
"I know baby, Cass told us how you must be feeling right now and how you need some space, I get that," I say and she nods. She crawls off me for a moment and silently goes into the spare bedroom and grabs a folded up piece of paper from the nightstand. She comes back and sits in front of me.
"Can you give it to him? Please? And tell Austin how much it hurt me to drive away that day," she whispers and I take the letter. She looks at me sadly and I stroke her hair.
"Sure thing Sam," I say gently and she nods gratefully.
"Thanks."
