Chapter 2

"Isadora, come downstairs we're all waiting for you." Yells my mom from downstairs.

"Ma, I'm coming just give me two minutes." I reply back while hastily fastening the clasp on the back of my dress.

"No two minutes come down now or we're leaving," she yells back followed by a muffled "I'm so sorry about this she usually isn't this late in getting dressed."

I quickly run to my closet, grab the nearest flats I could find, and rush out of my room trying not to trip on my own two feet.

"Isado..." starts my mom,

"I'm here, I'm here. Now come on lets go we don't want to be late." I call after my mom whilst grabbing my black leather jacket from the closet and heading out the front door.

"Mija you could've at least said hello to our guests where are your manners?" scolds my mother. I stop walking halfway through the door and turn to face the group of people all staring at me with different expressions on their faces. First I see my mother with a crossed look on her face and a hint of embarrassment on behalf of my rude self, next I see her best friend from high school 'Cleta' smiling at me with that "oh your so adorable look" on her face. And right beside her is none other than corny, Donald duck salesman guy looking at me with a boyish grin and a mischievous twinkle in his emerald eyes. Lastly, I see my fifteen year old brother smirking at me and looking constipated from trying not to burst out laughing. I quickly compose myself and start with the introductions. I work my way from left to right, skipping my mom and starting straight with Cleta, I quickly gave her a peck on the cheek as was customary and of course she babbled on about how much I've grown and what a beauty I have become. Once that was over I turn to face him and am completely frozen and clueless as to how I am supposed to greet him. Before he could move I thrust out my hand unexpectedly and awkwardly stood there waiting for him to shake my hand in return. A few moments passed when I finally gained the courage to look up at him and saw that he was smirking! He had the biggest smirk on his face and I couldn't believe I had to spend a couple more hours with this guy! Before I could pull my hand away he quickly latched on to it and gave it a little shake. I snatched my hand away as fast as I could and put my head down while pretending to clear my throat.

"Well, now that we've all properly said hello lets get going shall we? Hmm come on lets go." Said my mom leading the way to the cars. I waited till everyone was out the door before following and walked up beside my brother intending to talk to him until I saw that stupid constipated laughing look on his face. I gave him a death glare and briskly walked past him to the passenger seat of our new champagne colored Lexus.

"Gabby, we'll follow you to the restaurant." Cleta said to my mom while getting into her black SUV. My mom nodded her head and entered the driver's side of the car, turned on the engine and then was off. We stopped in front of this elegant Italian restaurant on the corner of a boardwalk and as I got out of the car I could see a huge line of people just waiting to get in.

"Ma, don't you think this place is a little too crowded?" I ask her while she's handing the keys of the car to the valet.

"Don't worry mija, I made reservations we'll be seated in no time." She replied, briskly walking past me and entering the restaurant. And true to her word we were all seated and looking at the menus within five minutes. Our waiter came by to take our orders and I couldn't help but notice how handsome he actually was. He looked to be about eighteen years old with light brown hair and chocolate eyes. He came to take my order last and bent down next to me so we were looking at each other face to face.

"What can I get for you tonight?" he asked, while flashing me with a side smile.

"Um... the penne Alfredo please." I tell him without looking into his eyes. Gosh, why was I so awkward in these types of situations, I mean I'm a girl, shouldn't I have a flirtatious side to me that I was naturally born with. He leaned in closer and I could smell the cologne off of his shirt.

"I'll get that for you right away." He said in a silky voice and when I finally looked at him he lingered without breaking eye contact for a few moments before standing up and promising the rest of the table to be back with our food and then walking away. I looked up to see 'him' staring at me with an unreadable expression on his face.

"What?" I ask him scrunching up my face with scorn.

"Nothing." He replies with the same tone as mine before looking away. Oh boy this is going to be a long dinner, I thought to myself. As we moved from appetizer to entre, I felt as if this whole dinner was a whole waste of my time seeing as all I was doing was sitting there staring at my plate and keeping quiet. The rest of the group seemed oblivious to my existence as my mother and Cleta were reminiscing about the 'good old days' and Adel and Rafe were discussing something about soccer. I'll admit both parties tried to include me in their conservations, oddly Rafe tried harder than the others to draw at least some words out of me; but I remained adamant and kept my lips sealed. I just didn't feel like socializing, I had very bad social skills and in awkward positions (like this one) I usually tend to hide in a corner and keep to myself. The cute waiter guy kept trying to grab my attention but every time he finally managed to I'd become sidetracked with some question that Rafe would ask of me. So besides just sitting there and occasionally talking, the highlight of the dinner was the amazing penne Alfredo that I had just ate.

Towards the end of the meal, my brother suddenly stood up saying "Alright Ma, I'm going now to go meet up with some guys I met today. Oh by the way," he said turning towards Rafe "do you wanna come?" I looked from my brother to Rafe and his eyes locked with mine. I saw a flicker of indecision pass through his face before he replied with a "no thanks but maybe some other time."

"Wait," I cut in looking at my brother. "You made friends already? We haven't even been here for a week and your already hanging out with people?" I ask him, shock and probably a hint of jealously showing on my face because he replied with:

"Ya, sis not all of us are socially in adept like you. Some of us actually have lives you know." He replied with a smug look on his face. Before I could reply back with a scathing comeback my mom interrupted the both of us.

"Adel, that's enough. Apologize to your sister and then go." She gave him a pointed glare and he quickly mumbled a "sorry" and fled. Great, now I was stuck with two middle-aged ladies ranting on in Spanish, and one unbelievably hot guy with who I had absolutely no idea what to talk about.

"Hey, do you want to go take a walk on the beach?" I turn to look at him, and for a moment forget everything he just said. It was those gorgues emerald eyes making me forget where I was or even who I was. I was quickly brought crashing down to earth when he took hold of my shoulder and gave me a gentle shake. "Isadora? Hey are you ok?" he asked me, concern reflecting in the expression of his face. I mentally shook my head and replied with "Ya sorry just spaced out for a bit, I'm sorry what were you saying?"

"I just wanted to know if you wanted to take a walk down the beach?"

"Uh I don't know I don't think..." I started to reply when my mother interrupted me.

"Mija I think that's a great idea, besides you two don't want to be hanging around with us old ladies. Go go have fun and I'll call you when were done here." And with that she gave me a knowing smile on her face that basically said 'go have fun, he' cute!' and turned to continue talking to Cleta.

"Well I guess we have no choice then. Now that we have your mother's blessing we have to go." He gave me a grin before standing up to help me out of my seat. A nervous chuckle slipped from my mouth as I thought of the 'walk' we were going to take on the beach at 10 o'clock at night on a full moon with him and me alone. This is not going to go well.
