Chapter 6

"What about this end table for your room huh? It matches your dresser."

I looked towards where my mom was pointing and saw this deep mahogany end table that was perfect for my room. "Ya its perfect for the side of my bed."

"Alright let me see if I can find someone to help." As she left to find a home depot employee I felt a buzz in my back pocket. I quickly took my phone out of my shorts and saw that it was Ally calling.

"Hey what's up Ally?"

"Isa where are you, Liz is throwing a fit cause your not here and she's taking it out on Rafe cause he's the closest one in her line of vision. We're both trying to cover for you but you better hurry up and get over here now."

"Alright, I'm coming now." I closed my phone and quickly searched the store to find my mom. I finally spotted her talking to some middle aged man with a receding hairline in a grey business suit. Who could she possibly be talking to, I wonder to myself as I sauntered over to where they were.

"Yes, I heard about that one. And have you seen the offices their... oh Isadora, this is Bob Stokes. He's an accountant for the same company that I work at." She said to me while she gestured towards 'Bob'. "Bob meet my daughter Isadora, she's going to be a senior soon at the public high school here."

"Isadora, its nice to meet you. I can see that beauty runs in the family." He said while smiling at my mom. Wow, and just when I thought this couldn't get any more awkward, I turned to see that my mom was blushing at his compliment as she subtly flipped her hair over her shoulder and gave him a bright smile. Gag me, my mother was actually trying to flirt with this guy.

"Oh Bob, you always have the nicest things to say. Even if half the time they aren't true." My mom replied. Now this was my cue to leave.

"Umm, Ma I need to go, I have to get to work so I'll drop you home on the way but we have to go now." As I said this I could see a disappointed look on her face, but I wasn't sure if it was because she wanted to continue shopping or if she just wanted to stay and talk to this Bob guy; all I knew was that we had to get out of here, and fast.

"You know Carmen, I could drop you off if you needed to continue shopping." Suggested Bob as he looked towards my mom hopefully. Uh, nope. No way is this corny accountant man going to be alone in a car with my mother. But before I could quickly reject the idea, I heard my mom readily agree as she then placed a peck on my cheek while ushering me off towards the exit. As I'm walked away I couldn't help but turn back to absorb the bizarre scene that was appearing before my eyes. My mom flirting with an accountant. Who would've guessed she could move on that fast.

When I finally got to Macy's I could see that everything was in chaos. There was a huge line at the cashier and only Ally was managing it, Rafe was running around the store with a box of shoes and Liz was nowhere to be found. I quickly clocked in while nearly colliding with Rafe as I hurried to help Ally out. I heard him chuckle as I moved away and couldn't help but grin back. Its been two weeks since the whole girlfriend fiasco and we were now both on good terms. I guess we could be labeled as friends. I rushed over to where Ally was and quickly assumed the position of expert cashier worker.

An hour later the store had died down and we were now taking a break from the adrenaline rush we just had. While Rafe and Liz were talking about new orders for the store, Ally and I were skimming through a Vogue magazine, calling dibs on all the male models we thought were hot, when in walked non other than Booze. I remembered my first meeting with the six foot four, blonde surfer dude who came waltzing in demanding a refund for an old worn out jacket he claimed he bought from this very store.
