here and now

⌠ 1 ⌡

Time seems to pass all too fast.

A week, two, three,

all blur together.

It's times like this

that I wish I could stop.

Just live here and now.

But life moves on,

things change,

feelings change.

But I can't.

What'll I do next year?

The year after?

The question haunts me.

Everyone else seems to have

it all figured out.

Here I am.

Thinking only

of now.

⌠ 2 ⌡

It's so cliche

it hurts.

The cherry blossoms are blooming

in full force.

It was supposed to rain,

but there are no clouds,

not even a wisp.

The seniors are outside

for the ceremony.

I can spot her pink hair

from anywhere.

"Man when is this thing ending," Takeshi says.

"Shh," I tell him.

The speakers drone on and on.

Her head keeps bobbing up and down.

Is she falling asleep?

We laugh.

The ceremony continues.

Time for the seniors to receive their diplomas.

Every name closer

to her's,

I feel tension.

Tightening in my chest.

When I imagine her

holding that certificate,

I feel so distant from her.

The audience claps as

each student

goes up to the podium.

"Takanashi Ai."

Takeshi nudges me to clap.
