(two weeks later)
Kim.
Just as I predicted, he came right back. But not in the way I wanted. He's been in my apartment eating up all my groceries and talking about that Rhonda chick. Of course I offered him my undivided attention because that would make him think I actually gave a fuck, but I wasn't about to keep doing this. I had to put a stop to it somehow and how no idea how to deal with this kind of man. One minute he's emotionally open, the next he's emotionally closed off. It was hard to know when it was the right time to pull him into my bedroom and I was tired of waiting.
I excused myself from the kitchen as he stood by the counter eating out of the box of Captain Crunch, making way down the hall to the bedroom and closing the door behind me. I went to grab the phone, dialing Suge's number, listening to it ring before he bothered to pick up.
"What?"
"Hey, baby. I have a bit of an issue. Things are going a bit slower than I expected—"
"Yeah, I noticed. Speed it up. I'm tryna' have him out here soon because it's not goin' to be a quick process to remove him from his label. I gotta' become his friend and shit, and that could take a long ass time. I ain't exactly the approachable type. Then I gotta' earn the trust of his lil' gospel crew. It's a lot, man. It's gon' take a year if not more than that."
"A year?", I blurted, immediately becoming frustrated. A year? I gotta' put up with this nigga for a year? Oh, no. Fuck this. "I want my money, Suge. You said—", I started to say.
"Who the fuck you talkin' to, Kim?", he spoke into the phone. "Now, I know what I said. But you gon' have to wait until ya' job is complete to get yo' cut. What I can do is make sure you got a roof over ya' head when you get out here. That's all you need to worry about aside from gettin' us in with DeVante. Do ya' job or I'll finish it for you." With the way he usually handled business and there was no way I was about to cross him or make him have to come all the way out here himself. I would be a dead woman.
"Okay", I replied. He hung up and I was left with the pressure of a lifetime. I had to make this work somehow. I put the phone back on the hook and exited the room, going down the hall to see DeVante on the couch with his socks off and his feet propped up on the coffee table. I frowned at the smell, deciding the adjust my face and join him on the couch. Turning toward him, my legs folded into Indian Style, I ran my hand over the top of his head, playing in his hair. "How do you feel about me?", I asked in a soft tone and he tensed up.
He glanced over at me, shrugged his shoulders, "I don't know. What you mean, Kim?"
"Like, as a person. As a friend", I added, keeping it simple since I didn't want to scare him off.
He chuckled as a grin formed along his pink lips, sitting up and turning more toward me, "Uh...well, for starters, I think you're an amazin' woman. Very sweet and attentive. A great listener, ya' know?" I founded myself smiling at his words while he continued. "And not to mention beautiful. You've been through a lot, and the fact that you don't feel the need to always make it about your problems, I respect that."
"Do you trust me?", I asked. I needed to know where I stood with him.
He sat and thought for a minute, his eyes glancing up toward his head as I played in his hair then back down at me. His eyes pierced into mine, he slowly leaned forward, nodding his head until his lips were almost touching mine, "Yes." His voice was so sexy. Aside from his annoying personality, this man was hella' attractive and had a huge dick. Not only in length but in width, too. A lot bigger than Suge's, which I didn't know was possible. Physically, DeVante was blessed.
