The following stories are true but are in line with General Medical Council (UK) guidance regarding our practice: that we respect patient confidentiality at all times and we do not act in ways that negatively affect the public's perception of healthcare professionals. There is no patient-identifiable information in any of these stories. All names are aliases, details about their medical conditions, backgrounds, timeline, events as inpatients, and outcomes are altered to an extent that patients are not identifiable. Any similarities are purely coincidental.

My credentials: I am an internal physician resident trained in the UK and has been working in a variety of specialties for the past few years. A few years ago, I left the UK to work in Hong Kong and I am now a gastroenterology trainee.

My jobs have involved general medicine, general surgery, orthopaedic surgery, respiratory medicine, palliative care, and more. All stories in this collection reflect my own personal experiences and do not represent the views of the hospital(s) I work in or the medical professional as a whole. I cannot and will not provide medical advice for any real-life personal concerns; please seek opinions from your own doctors. I can, however, provide some information should you choose to use my stories as inspiration and include medical details in your own fictional work. Or just for some insight into what life is like as a doctor.

Please also consider this a content warning for potential triggers: death, gore, blood, abuse, and injuries.

This book may contain potentially controversial topics encountered in healthcare, such as abortion, rape, and anti-vaccination. If I find you leaving hateful or inflammatory comments in my book, I will block you without hesitation. Your vitriol is not welcome here.
