I had a lot of anxiety when beginning my paediatric job, but after two weeks in, I found it nowhere near as scary as I thought it would be. Communicating with children can be variable because some are super outgoing and others just clam up and bury their faces in Mum, but overall is going well.

I have two new best friends. Aimee is 9 and beamed at me on the ward round today and we had great chat about the best rides at local theme parks. We later went hand-in-hand to grab one of the (many) easter eggs that still lay about the ward for patients. Beth is 4, tells me I smell like sausages, sucked on her fingers and then poked all 10 of my ear piercings in awe, and slides on top of me so I can pick her up (4 y/os are HEAVY), which I did for the 5mins my muscles could manage.

Both of them got discharged on the same day. Aimee specially came over to the doctor's office to give me a hug and wave goodbye. Beth's dad came to thank me as well and left smiling. I'm now best-friends-less.

I am bereft.
