Its kind of weird. Having people look your way because even though you've never talked to them they know you, or at least of you.
Let me take a step back and explain. Today is the first day of my senior year foot ball training. because of all the talk of me training with a college other colleges are already observing me at the practices. Its kind of pointless but I suppose whatever floats your boat.
Today we will start conditioning. We will get checked out by the teams physical trainer and update her files with all of our past injuries and any med we currently have to take and then we take a drug test so they can find out if we are taking any. Then we get a lunch break at noon and then we do more conditioning and then another break at 5:30 for dinner. We get water and small snacks when ever we need it there are are trash cans on the four corners for when you have to puck because chances are you will puck at least two times from 8-7 when we are at practice. When you take water breaks that are officially called you have to down a whole water bottle so you don't pass out from dehydration. The first practice is always the worst because getting your body used to conditioning takes at least 4 days. We do this we do this every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday for two weeks.
Today is the first day of that two week span. I'm wearing a purple pair of shorts and a grey sports bra. Every guys wearing athletic shorts with out a shirt. It's August 9th ,2016 and its really hot out unfortunately. we can be inside like we were when we were weight lifting. Currently everyone is downing a couple of water bottles to prepare themselves for today.
The Coach walks out and pats a couple of guys on the back before he blows his blaring load whistle that you could hear all the way at the base ball dugout which is about 13 blocks away. The Coach is a very big guy. One that you might be scared to walk past at night but he's a really nice guy after you get past his very tough exterior.
"Sit down on the field before I pass out you guys already smell."
All of the guys make their way to the field except Gage. He makes his way over to me before picking me up and tossing me on the ground lightly next to where he plans to sit. I give him the evil eye.
"Listen, as you can see we do have people here to watch you this practice doesn't mean anything but its better to leave a good impression. Delilah will be leading conditioning while I go and talk to the coaches and then we will take a break and then we will do drills. Go!"
I grab my phone before i run it up the bleachers and walk into the room with the hooked up sound system. I grab the mic,
"Any song recommendations?"
"Not really." they shout back so I start with barbie girl on the playlist and then have a turn up play list for after that.
I hear a bunch of sighs once they all realize what it is.
"Ah ah ahh, get up here we're doing bleacher runs!"
