She Was Such a Fighter

"Ruby has stage four Lung Cancer", the doctor said to the air that suddenly felt hard to be in.

Mommy cried and Daddy grew a crease in his forehead that never left after that day. Ruby wasn't sure what was going on, she looked up into mommys eyes and said, "It's going to be okay Mommy, I'm a fighter, that's what Daddy always says."

Through tears her mom smiled and held Ruby closer. We started treatment that day, but it wasn't enough. Ruby's hair started to fall out without growing back fast enough.

We would try to play out in the yard but Mommy was always so scared Ruby would fall and rip the tubes out of her nose that helped her breath.

I was scared too.
