JASON POV

I drove to my best friend Chad's place. There were vehicles parked up and down both sides of the street. I parked seven cars down from his house behind a blue pickup.

As I strutted up the walk, techno music became louder and clearer the closer I got.

I walked up onto the porch and the door opened. Chad stumbled out.

"D-dude." He stuttered. "What up...man?"

Lovely. He was drunk.

"Hey Chad. Is Carmen in there?"

"Uhh..." He looked down.

I knew she was in there. With another guy. But for some reason my heart didn't feel 'shattered' this time.

I brushed past him and walked into the house. He followed me in. The house was crowded with hordes of sweaty bodies and it smelled of pot. I hate house parties, I thought.

I slithered my way through the throngs of people and finally got to the living room.

Just as I suspected, Carmen was on some redhead's lap. She threw her head back, cackling away at something he whispered into her ear.

I clenched my fists and made my way over to them.

Once I got to them, she still didn't notice me. I cleared my throat and she finally looked up. As soon as she saw that it was me, her face fell.

"O-ohhhhh." She stuttered in disbelief.

"Oh? That's all you have to say?" I asked sarcastically.

She looked down. The girl didn't even bother getting off his lap.

"Carmen. I need to talk to you." I said fake smiling.

She quickly stood up and I led her to the bathroom. Closing the door after her, I turned to face her.

She gazed expectantly at me.

"Carmen, I don't think this is going to work anymore." I said.

"You sure about that?" She asked suddenly furious. I swear that girl is bipolar or something. I'm surprised she didn't get whiplash.

"Yeah. I'm sure ." I said.

"Whatever. I didn't like you anyways."

I stared at her.

"Don't act all surprised. Why do you think I cheated on you? Multiple times by the way." She smirked at me sarcastically.

"I don't care." I shrugged. I couldn't let her know I did.

"Oh, you do care." Before I could stop her, she leaned in and kissed me, patted my shoulder and strutted out. I stared at the now open door stunned. I also felt like there was a huge weight being lifted off my shoulders.

***

After I left Chad's party, I drove around the city until five in the morning before a red car sped up beside me and I looked out my driver's side window. The redhead was at the wheel. Grinning at me. He sped up in front of me, daring me to chase him. I pushed on the gas pedal and my car lurched forward. I inched closer and closer. I eventually got ahead of him, flipping him off on my way past. Now I was going 160km an hour.

I heard sirens behind me getting louder. I peeked in my rearview mirror and a police car was right behind me.

Crap! I thought. Busted.

I pulled over.

When the police got to my open window, he said, "Good morning, Jason McCann."

I sighed and clenched my eyes shut.

Sorry, Mom.
