COULD HAVE BEEN

you,  kind eyes and playfulness,
you have given me more
than i would ever dare
give you credit for.

remnants of you
remain in my life, memories
that i held more dear than i
would have liked to admit.

hurried equations scribbled
onto crumpled paper behind
the ice cream shop during warm
summers and quiet afternoons.

when i pass by the old,
quiet bus stop, i am surprised to find
that i have kept you in the back of
my mind, ticket in hand.

although we no longer
share the same ideas for a
grander life, my heart still
occasionally beats for you.

you see, it still remembers you
and sometimes it forgets that it does not
belong to you anymore and it leaps,
longing for you, for what could have been
something more.

A/N: a gentle poem that i've edited and re-vamped. if you still read my poems, i hope you know that you meant a lot to me, too.
