Chapter Fifteen: Wounded Puppy
"What do you think happened to her?" I hear Dove's voice.
Carter's voice comes right after, "I'm not sure. Adrianna found her looking half dead on the couch and freaked out. We're lucky that she wasn't actually dead at all."
Are they talking about me?
Wait.
What did happen to me?
Why am I in a hospital?
I crack my eyes open to see both of them standing over me, looking down. They both look tired, but Carter has the more obvious one. Maybe it's because Dove is wearing makeup.
"She's awake," Carter half whispers half shouts.
My eyes take a few moments to adjust to the sunlight and my fingers feel sore once I try to move them.
"You were out for two days!" Dove speaks loudly into my ear. Now it's beginning to feel sore too, if it's possible for an ear to feel sore.
I move my mouth around to get a better feel of my jawbones, "What happened? And where am I?"
"Adrianna called Drew after she saw you lying on her couch with vodka bottles around you. He told her that you two broke up all over again and then he left. Dove and I travelled out here once we found out." Carter side glances at Dove who is vigorously nodding her head.
Oh. I remember. Don't cry, Celeste.
I played with a strand of my hair while I evaluated the situation. I drank after Drew broke up with me and I hate myself for it. But... why do I still feel like drinking?
"Can we leave the hospital?" I yawn.
"Yeah. The doctor said that we can leave as soon as you wake up," Dove swings her bag over her shoulder and she yawns too.
Yawning is very contagious.
Carter helps me out of bed. He reaches to the chair beside him to pass me my mob of clothes.
I quickly put them on in the washroom and redo my hair the best way I can with my fingers. I look at myself in the mirror and realize that these aren't my clothes. They are a bit smaller and tighter than mines. My best guess would be that they are Dove's clothes.
Where did my dress that I was wearing go?
"Do you know where my dress went?" I slam open the door, surprising both Dove and Carter with my sudden movement.
They both nod simultaneously, creeping me out a little. Dove tells me that she placed it in her bag and Carter confirms it by pulling the wrinkled thing out and shoving it in my face.
When we're in the car, I begin to need some alcohol, "Can we go get something to drink?"
This is so weird. I've never needed to drink alcohol. It usually just comes to me when I want it and I only want it at parties. Never have I ever wanted it just randomly.
"Dove, grab her some water, will you?" Carter looks at the smiling blonde sitting in the passenger seat beside him.
Dove reaches into the little cubby to grab a bottle of water, but when she tries to pass it to me, I push it away.
