Chapter Twenty: Unexplainable Feeling
"Honey, this hair is gorgeous, but it looks like it you never brushed it in your life."
It wasn't me who decided on a girls night out, but yet, I was the reason that we did this anyways. Apparently, I looked too down, so we needed something to cheer me up. Dove and Joyce decided on getting our hair done, then going to the mall, and finally a nice dinner at a fancy-shmancy restaurant.
I turn my eyeballs up to look at my hair stylist; a middle-aged woman with died purple hair that kind of freaked me out the tiniest bit, "I'm just really stressed and sometimes I don't have time to run the brush through it."
My hair was finally slowly growing back in since the fire that happened almost two months ago. You could call the last two months peaceful, but were they really? No. At least not for me. It consisted of my friends annoying me about being happier and this boy that has kissed me twice, but I am still pushing out of my life because I am not ready to deal with guys again. Ugh, life is running through my brain quicker than ever and I can't stand it.
"Ah. Stress from school killed me when I was your age," she begins to scrub against my scalp with the flowery smelling shampoo that she used. Dove chirps in from beside me, "It's not school that's causing her the stress, ma'am. Her life is just too dramatic, like a Bollywood play." Sometimes I wish that Dove would just put a lid on that thing.
The three stylists all say 'ahhh' in unison. Joyce's stylist articulates, "I would think the blonde one is the one to be stressed. Look at the tummy! Dear, you must be pregnant! And at such an young age too... what happened?" I've heard people say that hair stylists are nosy, but I haven't experienced it until today.
"We're not even sure," Joyce pulls out one of her ear buds and sighs really loudly. Her designers clicks her tongue, "Well, I'll say. You have to find out who did this to you and sue them!" Her fellow stylists nod vigorously in agreement.
I've already decided to stop talking. It's bad enough that they are demanding to know about our personal lives and to add to that, Dove and Joyce are actually telling them about it. We all know that the most likely person to have this baby with Dove is Lucas, so I just don't get why it's still such a big deal.
"Have you been out with anyone late at night? You know, maybe someone who potentially harbours some feelings for you or wants to get back at you for something." My stylist rinses the bubbles in my hair out and scrubs against the lukewarm warmer touching my scalp. Ugh, I haven't felt this relaxed in a while.
Dove takes a few minutes to think, "When Celeste was doing her late-night make-up tests and homework a few months, Lucas dropped by and said that he was going to take Celeste to a country club party or something. I told him that Cel wasn't home and he started complaining about what the hell he was going to do with the extra ticket he paid so much for. This happened and that happened and somehow I got picked to go with Lucas to the party."
I actually remember Lucas asking me out to a country club party. He told me that it'll be fun and he promised that I wouldn't get wasted, so I reluctantly agreed. My professors swamped me with work the night I was supposed to go with him, so I had to stay in the library to finish it all. By the time I came back to the dorm, it was almost three in the morning and Dove was sound asleep in her bed.
By now, after Dove's story, I am almost sure that it was Lucas' fault that Dove is pregnant. I mean, the puzzle pieces fit together perfectly. Lucas took Dove to the party, gave her some drink, and the boom! He could've gotten away with it really easily and stupid me didn't notice because Dove was in bed by the time I got home. Sometimes I really hate how well thought out Lucas' plans are.
