Two years afterwards...

        ~ ~ ~

   Monday:

Kuga had picked her up from her apartment. They left for the mountains with their things packed and ready. Riding on his motorcycle was fun. It took them until evening to reach their destination at the garage.

      Tuesday:

With his motorcycle locked up and his necessities strapped to his back, Kuga began to lead her through the trails. They were hard. She was hot and exhausted. After almost having a heart attack (thanks to her), Kuga decided it was time to set up camp. Due to some peculiar arrangements, feelings were expressed and confessions were made. The night was long.

      Wednesday:

They woke up late, so they had to travel quickly. Kuga could see that she was getting the hang of things. Less tripping. More moving. When they stopped for a break they spotted some deer in the distance. There was a fawn stumbling amongst the group. It'd just learned how to walk, and it was cute, but Kuga was looking elsewhere. Her smile was unforgettable.

      Thursday:

After another long night, they made their way further up the mountain. The views became more and more stunning. She hadn't seen anything so beautiful, and despite having already seen it all, Kuga agreed with her. The weather was warm. They found a lake, and they swam. Instead of setting up the tent, they slept beneath the stars.

      Friday:

They were well over half way done with their trip, and that made her upset. Kuga could sympathize with her feelings, for he didn't want it to be over, either. Instead of dwelling on time limitations, they decided to enjoy everything even more. The trails were becoming more difficult, but she paid it no attention. She was with him, so the weight in her limbs was practically nonexistent. The only thing that grew heavier was her feelings for Kuga.

      Saturday:

Kuga was holding her hand when they reached the top. There wasn't a single cloud in the sky. The sun smiled back at them as they began their journey back down the mountain. Something had changed between them. A wall had been broken, and they felt like they could do anything. They reminisced in old memories through spouts of incoherent laughter. Had Kuga ever had so much fun before? She knew she hadn't.

      Sunday:

Thoughts of returning home didn't seem as upsetting as before, for they knew that they would have many more journeys to come. Kuga smiled as he revved the engine of his bike. She was holding onto him so tightly, and it reminded him of a koala bear. The lights of the city looked rejuvenating from the freeway, but they couldn't compare to the warm glow of their campfire or the bluish haze of the lantern they'd kept in their tent at night

Kuga dropped Kyouko off at her apartment. He stayed with her. She would be returning to school on Monday, and he'd have to go back to the shop. Graduation was still a few months away, but she'd received the greatest graduation gift of all time. She'd have the rest of her life to thank him for it, and he would have the rest of his to give her more to be thankful for.

      Monday:

Spring break was over, but they woke up knowing that this was only the beginning.
