First and foremost,
It is the responsibility of an investigator to value the truth above all else and it is the investigator's responsibility to marry it before it runs away forever
It is the investigator's responsibility to wake everyone up from their slumber
It is the investigator's responsibility to tiptoe in the shadows without even noticing themselves
It is the responsibility of an investigator to write their findings on paper fliers,
Posting them on telephone poles and Tumblr blogs with details that glow in the dark
It is the responsibility of an investigator to listen through closed doors or jump through closing subway doors or unlock the old doors that the landlords would rather have closed
It is the responsibility of an investigator to scream in the streets like a banshee
It is the responsibility of an investigator to be silent as a stone
Embracing the quiet which a good investigator must use in order to protect themselves from dissatisfied customers
It is the responsibility of an investigator to be an introvert
When faced with heads or tails, it is the responsibility of an investigator to keep flipping the coin until they understand both sides
It is the responsibility of an investigator to touch the hands of those with gripping stories to tell
It is the responsibility of an investigator to be the most cynical bitch in the batch of cookies
It is the investigator's responsibility to see all the colors of the rainbow
The mint greens and the turquoise blues and all the vibrant shades inbetween
But if it comes down to it, the investigator will condense black and white into grey
It is the responsibility of an investigator to sense with intensity,
To have an imagination wider than the sea but also a dutiful grip on reality
A responsible investigator knows that we are all "the media"
It is the responsibility of an investigator to gaze up at Michelangelo's Creation of Adam and notice that the divine gift comes not from a higher power, but from within our own minds
It is the responsibility of an investigator to motivate others to do some investigation,
So they understand that there's more to living than just paying the bills and dying at eighty
It is the responsibility of an investigator to hop on railroad cars like Woody Guthrie and leave their hard work behind in pursuit of a new investigation, continuing the uncharted journey that never had a purpose in the first place.
